Beautiful, peaceful, serene, delicate old home with all the modern comforts. Need a taxi to the train station reserved ahead? Done. Need to dine in when too tired to go back out looking for a place to eat? Delivery of food can be arranged with the...

The home was clean and artistically very special. The food provided for cooking was delicious and portions were just right. Location is a bit out of town which was a nice break from the crowds. Modern amenities with a historic feel - perfect.

This 150-year-old traditional Japanese house has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its original charm. The interior reflects the building’s history, with hand-crafted furniture made by local Kiso woodworkers, creating a space that immerses guests in the region’s cultural heritage. Guests can enjoy a courtyard planted with native Japanese plants and views of a nearby bamboo grove. An on-site café offers our original blend coffee, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. The concept of the accommodation is inspired by rain, creating a tranquil and reflective environment for your stay.
We had always wanted to renovate a traditional Japanese house and create our own hotel and café. That dream became a reality when we encountered a 150-year-old kominka along the historic Nakasendo trail—a place that captivated us and where our journey began. Our vision is to create a place where guests can connect with local stories, and a café where they can feel the warmth of the community.Together with this cherished kominka, we hope to build a future rooted in these values. May your time here be filled with memorable and enriching experiences. With all our heart, we look forward to welcoming you. Ame Nakasendo Owners & Hosts, Tomoya & Mao
The accommodation is located along the historic Nakasendo Trail, the centuries-old route that once connected Kyoto and Tokyo during the Edo period. Just a 15-minute walk from Nagiso Station, the house sits peacefully within a residential neighborhood where locals still live today. Here, guests can hear the gentle sound of mountain water flowing nearby and enjoy the quiet, rural charm of the Kiso Valley. One of the area’s highlights, Tsumago-juku, is a beautifully preserved post town on the Nakasendo Trail, known for its traditional wooden buildings and prohibition of cars during the day to maintain the town's historical atmosphere. Many travelers walk the scenic trail between Tsumago and Magome, experiencing what travel in old Japan felt like. There are two local restaurants near Nagiso Station, a supermarket about 15 minutes away on foot, and a convenience store around 20 minutes away. Whether you're exploring Japan's Edo-period heritage or simply looking to relax in nature, this area offers a unique and enriching experience.
