Casa KitsuneAna is a private rental where guests can experience satoyama life in a 100-year-old traditional Japanese house renovated in a modern Japanese style. The name of our property, “Kitsuneana” (meaning “Fox Den”), is derived from the historical name of this area. Only one group per stay (up to a maximum of seven guests with bedding provided) can be accommodated. There are two bedrooms, each furnished with two permanent beds. For groups of four adults or more, both bedrooms may be exclusively occupied, and depending on the number of guests, additional extra beds, futons, or mattresses will be provided. In addition to the bedrooms, guests can relax in the tatami room, the traditional engawa veranda, and the lounge area. A refrigerator, microwave, and electric kettle are available exclusively for guest use. However, please note that the kitchen is for commercial use only and is not available to guests. We appreciate your understanding. Our on-site café (currently available by advance reservation for staying guests only) offers meals and beverages. After your accommodation booking is confirmed, we will send you the menu and accept advance orders for breakfast and dinner (currently available for groups of four or more). We hope our guests will enjoy meals and various experiences in the satoyama countryside, making use of our family business and the local agriculture and forestry traditions. Guests may enjoy the breathtaking star-filled sky, seasonal countryside walks, firefly viewing in summer, and fireworks in the garden (please bring your own fireworks) free of charge. With advance reservation and an additional fee, guests can also enjoy activities such as a BBQ and making pizza in our wood-fired stove.
Our family initiated agricultural and forestry practices in this region during the Tensho era (Sengoku period). We established "Nanseki Agriculture and Forestry" during the Showa era. At present, our focus lies on fostering a novel and sustainable way of life, along with nurturing the growth of our family business. The owners, a retired couple, previously held occupations as a university professor and a magazine editor. "Satoyama" is a Japanese term that refers to the traditional rural landscapes encompassing the border between mountain foothills and cultivated fields. It represents the harmonious coexistence between nature and human activity, where communities have maintained sustainable agriculture, forestry, and cultural practices for generations. Satoyama showcases the intricate balance between biodiversity, traditional customs, and the local way of life, creating a unique and vibrant countryside environment. "Satoyama" holds a special charm that captivates visitors coming to Japan. It's a vivid tapestry of natural beauty and human interaction, where lush mountains seamlessly blend with cultivated fields. This enchanting landscape showcases the delicate dance between ancient traditions and modern life. As you explore satoyama, you'll witness the artistry of sustainable farming, the tranquility of pristine forests, and the genuine warmth of local communities. This unique harmony between nature and culture offers an authentic glimpse into Japan's soul, inviting you to experience its timeless allure and the deep connection between people and their land.
