We really enjoyed the atmosphere at this hostel. It was the only hostel we booked, and it was fun to meet some of the other guests. The place is very unique and beautiful. And they helped me with laundry. We would definitely stay there again.

The Kamejikan is run by well-traveled artists, and has been shaped by their personalities and perceptions. It embodies a sense of shibusa, “simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty.”

“A guesthouse travelling to slow pace of life in Kamakura” Our guesthouse is a gorgeous 93 years old wooden house renovated into the guesthouse in 2011. It is situated in Zaimokuza area which retains much of its traditional charm, with beautiful temples and charming old shops sitting right next to newly opened cafes and boutiques. Our guesthouse always stays true to its name: Kamejikan, meaning "slow time". The longer you stay here, the more youcan feel yourself relax, savoring the slow life. Welcome to Kamejikan: your perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of a big city.
After graduating from university, I volunteered as a teacher in Nepal, and then worked in the music industry in Tokyo for several years. In 2000, I embarked on a world tour; traveling across Asia to Africa. In Cape Town, South Africa, I worked at a vegetarian cafe, and then stayed in Zimbabwe, encountered the mbira, a Zimbabwean music instrument that he started to learn. After 3 years of travel, I came back to Japan and got involved in several music projects. The idea of setting up a guesthouse in Kamakura came from my own life experiences and the desire to build a sustainable community. I found a partner with the same vision, and with the support of the local community, Kamejikan opened in April 2011. I love travel, music, culture and positive dialogue with people from different background. I am looking forward to meeting you at Kamajikan in Kamakura.
Kamakura is the ancient capital of Japan, where hundreds of temples and shrines still remain. Kamakura attracts people with its history and open-minded culture. Here you can enjoy both: Zen meditation in the morning at a local temple as well as surfing later at the beach. This is a great opportunity for our visitors to experience the old Japanese lifestyle. It's also only 3 minutes away from a sandy beach, where you can enjoy your morning walks and beautiful sunsets, as well as swimming in summer.
