SPACIOUS: Koyasan Space offers an exceptionally large private area of approximately 150m². PRIVATE USE: Only one booking is accepted at a time, for a solo guest, couple, or a single group of up to four persons. All spaces—including meditation room, bath, bathing areas, and garden—are entirely private for the reserved guest or group. MATERIALS: Interiors are finished in wood, plaster, traditional tiles and natural fibres, with tatami rooms and pure-wool futons. Japanese antiques and objects decorate the spaces. PRACTICAL NOTES FOR KOYASAN TOURISM: At 800m elevation, mountain conditions change quickly; early arrival allows orientation before darkness and better transport connections (most Limited Express trains depart Osaka Namba early morning). LUGGAGE: Kuroneko (Yamato Transport) services to and from Koyasan Space are supported; we handle arrangements, and the service is highly reliable. COMBINATION TICKET (Shōdō Kyōtsū Naihaiken): Covers (1) Jukai Ceremony at the Daishi Kyōkai Training Center, (2) Kongōbu-ji Head Temple, (3) Konpon Daitō Great Pagoda, (4) Kondō Hall, (5) Tokugawa Mausoleum; tickets are sold at the Koyasan Shukubō Association and at the office opposite the Great Pagoda (near the bell). HIKING & BEARS: Check current mountain access and wildlife notices at the Koyasan Shukubō Association office before hiking. OPENING HOURS & RESTAURANTS: By 4 pm most temples, shops, cafés, and restaurants close; typical restaurant hours are 11:30–14:00, with very limited evening service; Izakaya Marutaka (five-minute walk) serves lunch and dinner. VEGETARIAN & MONKS’ MEALS: Vegetarian or vegan breakfast is standard at Koyasan Space; shōjin ryōri is booked directly with the temple at least 24 hours in advance, either at Koyasan Special Head Temple Shōjōshin-in or Ekō-in Temple. DAILY FIRE RITUAL: Held at 1 pm for approximately two hours at Koyasan Special Head Temple Shōjōshin-in; early arrival allows time to write gomagi and prepare quietly; photography and video permitted. OKUNOIN NIGHT TOURS: Operated by Ekō-in Temple; advance reservation via the Ekō-in website.
