new tradition hotel kanazawa is a private whole-house art hotel for one group per day, set in the heart of Higashi Chaya, one of Japan's most historic townscapes. Among streets where Edo-period scenery still lingers, we have restored a machiya townhouse over 100 years old as a contemporary residence. The house has two bedrooms and a living-dining area for up to five guests. The appeal of this stay is not limited to the hotel itself. The surrounding Edo-period townscape is also an essential part of the experience. In the quiet of early morning or evening, after the daytime crowds have gone, you can enjoy the historic streets as if they were yours alone. Placing yourself in scenery passed down through generations, and feeling the depth of Kanazawa's time, is what makes this stay unique. Inside, tea bowls, a bamboo whisk and other tea utensils are provided. Even guests with no tea ceremony experience can follow simple instructions and prepare matcha themselves. Rather than only seeing tea culture as sightseeing, you can actually use your hands and encounter Japanese tea culture in the quiet of the machiya. We provide Kaga bocha, a fragrant roasted tea loved locally. The house is furnished with lacquerware, Kutani ceramics and washi by emerging Ishikawa artisans. They are not only for display. By spending time in the machiya and sensing the quality of the objects you touch, you can feel how tradition lives within contemporary life. Aesop bath amenities are provided. Kanazawa Station is about 10 minutes away by taxi, with convenient bus access. Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, Omicho Market and the 21st Century Museum are easy to reach, making this a convenient base for exploring Kanazawa. The property is non-smoking. If heavy soiling, damage, loss of items or any signs of smoking are confirmed, actual cleaning, repair or replacement costs may be charged. Please use the machiya and its furnishings with care, so they can be passed on to the next guests.
