Here’s the translation with a more relaxed tone: We are deeply in love with the natural beauty of Lake Toya, a true gem of Hokkaido. The scenery changes with the seasons, offering a tranquil and mesmerizing experience just by being there. Feeling a strong connection between this beautiful nature and people, we created TOYA KAIROU in 2018. Then, in 2024, we launched our second project, a guesthouse and event space called “SHIZEN TOYA.” What we aim to offer is something you can’t find in large hotels—a special experience that comes from personal connections. We spent years renovating, enjoying the process, and overcoming challenges along the way. We hope our guests can feel the “Joy” that came out of this journey. We’ve traveled through Europe, America, and Asia with just a backpack, staying in many different places. Those experiences shaped our vision to create a guesthouse from a traveler’s perspective, one that makes you think, “This is the kind of place I’ve been looking for.” We also offer unique, local tours that you won’t find in any guidebook. Welcome to SHIZENTOYA! Host Profile Kazzyuki N (Kaz) Born in 1971, Hokkaido, Japan. Currently, my wife and two sons are studying abroad in the Philippines. Moved to Lake Toya in 2016, began running the lodging TOYA HOME KAIROU in 2018, and opened SHIZENTOYA in 2024. About SHIZENTOYA This small cabin, roughly 50 years old, has been gradually renovated over several years by the owner himself. This place is never truly “finished”—it continues to evolve with subtle changes even today. Many of the furnishings here are vintage or retro, creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The space is designed to feel inviting and comforting. The core concept of SHIZENTOYA is “experience.” Experiences are deeply personal and unique to each individual.
