Just book it. Amazing lake view (that is if you don't get a snowstorm, otherwise – amazing snowstorm view!), if you get a chance get the room with a spa bathtub. What an experience!

After 3 months in Japan now, the staff were extremely nice, by far the nicest I've encountered, and their willingness to help was very genuine. Onsen was nice, beds on the tatami were great and everything was clean and tidy. The location is great, on the lake, with busses to Toyako and Usu ropeway stopping by.

This hotel really exceeded my expectations after recommendation. The experience was memorable from the start, staff met us right at the entrance to help with luggage and welcomed us with drinks and snacks. The lobby itself is stunning; the lighting and the immediate view of Lake Toya and Mount Usu make everything feel incredibly cozy and comfortable. The biggest highlight has to be the top-floor infinity onsen. Soaking in the open-air bath with that breathtaking view of the lake and mountains was unforgettable, though very cold in winter! The food was also a major plus, with a huge buffet for both dinner and breakfast that covered everything from Western to Japanese dishes, all of them delicious. Since the hotel is right on the lakeside walk, our room faced the water, and waking up to that view was absolutely worth it. I’d definitely go back.

The place has a great view of Toya Lake. The house had a warm cozy old-school vibe to it. The owner was very very nice! We came here by bus, he picked us up from the bus stop, drove to the house to drop our luggage and gave us a quick tour of the main street! He even picked us up the following morning and drove us to the JR station. Would definitely book again!

What Guests Said About Lake Toya:

The view of Lake Toya was absolutely beautiful.

The view of Lake Toya was absolutely beautiful. There is a long lakeside promenade behind the hotel, which is perfect for a relaxing walk while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and fresh air. If you have enough time, you can also take a sightseeing cruise around the lake. I would also recommend taking the Usuzan Ropeway, where you can enjoy another spectacular panoramic view of Lake Toya from above.

The area is beautiful with breathtaking views of Mount Yusei and Nakajima Island. The Lake Toya Nonokase Resort was superb in so many ways: facilities, room size, views, buffet restaurant quality and staff friendliness and helpfulness.

Very touristy and busy. Enjoyed the Mt. Usu Ropeway and the walk at the summit station, along the Southern Rim Trail to the lookout over Ginnuma Crater. Panoramic views from the Silo Observation Deck.

Very beautiful and quaint little town.

Very beautiful and quaint little town. Loved the hot foot and hand spas for the public. Views of the lake were amazing and the onsen with the cost of our room was worth it. Better to stay since it is much more beautiful than at Rusutsu Resort area and not that far to go snowboarding.

Lake Toya is a special Jewel of a retreat in Japan.

Lake Toya is a special Jewel of a retreat in Japan. It is well known but many people have never been as its slightly more difficult to get to then other Onsen. The natural beauty of the lake is breathtaking and well worth the visit, it is a small town by comparison so not so much for shopping/nightlife etc. Your going to sit and watch the sunset and soak for a long time in Onsen or tubs. Also many of the Onsen seem to be of very high quality so pick what fits budget/needs best and I bet you will have a spectacular time.

We enjoyed the Ususzan Ropeway, Volcano Museum in town and driving around the countryside to Niseko, Otaru (great canal and Railway Museum), and the National Ainu Museum at Upupoy. Beautiful lake views and fireworks each night.

Nice, old-school hotel on the shore of Lake Toya. Basic Japanese style rooms (get a lake view one) with comfy futons and standard (small, plastic) bathrooms. Basement onsen was good (for an older hotel) and has all the classic old onsen hotel amenities (amusement area; lobby lounge overlooking lake; shop, etc). Food wasn't too bad, considering the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
