WELCOME TO KAWAGUCHI. 　　OSHI HOUSE 御師（おし）の家　　 ●This house(UMEYA) dates to the Edo period (1776) and remains the only extant domestic building in Kawaguchi originally used by an oshi. Oshi were a type of religious practitioner associated with specific shrines, in this case the Asama shrine. Their role involved guidingvisitors through the shrine or temple and offering prayer (kito) on their behalf as well as providing lodgings and the like.There was a house of OSHI of about 140 houses in the heyday. Twice a year during spring and autumn oshi traveled from the town to the countryside offering prayers in exchange for donations and encouraging people to climb Mount Fuji as a means of obtaining spiritual advancement. During the Edo period climbing the mountainbecame a popular endeavor with many people being cared for by the Oshi at this residence as they made their physical and spiritual preparation to climb the mountain, setting out from the Asana shrine. ●我が家は、江戸時代末まで御師の家として富士山に登る人々をお泊めし安全祈願などの祈祷をしてお客様をお送りしていました。2階のベランダやお部屋からは富士山が望めます。これから桜の開花に向かって、だんだん暖かくなってきます。河口湖湖畔の桜や新倉浅間公園（忠霊塔）の桜も人の心を和ましてくれるでしょう。自然をご堪能ください。◎＜お詫び＞　現在、河口湖駅へのお迎えは行っておりません。申し訳ございませんが、5番のバス乗り場から甲府行きに乗車、河口局前で下車、100メートルほど進んだ左奥が我が家になります。

我が家の目の前にある富士山世界文化遺産の構成資産の一つである河口浅間神社には、パワースポットとして有名な7本の杉があります。1000年以上も経つ巨木です。神社の裏には、母の白滝という滝もあります。マイナスイオンを浴びてください。ここでは、滝行をして身を清める人たちもいます。
