I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mizuno. The view from the hotel is absolutely stunning — and even on days when Mount Fuji isn’t visible, it’s still such a beautiful place to relax. The staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent and offer amazing value compared to most hotels in Japan. Especially if you prefer Western-style dishes, this hotel really stands out — the quality and presentation are far better than what I experienced in other hotels in the country if we talk about the same price category. Overall, it’s a lovely place to stay, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kawaguchiko. 🌿

This was by far the best hotel I stayed at during my Japan and Korea trip. The hotel is incredibly modern, with impressive technology throughout and stunning views of Mt Fuji. Amazing experience of a traditional ryokan. The staff was excellent, kind and helpful at all times, rooms were clean and tidy, ours had an amazing view of the lake. You can use most of the facilities for free with some additional ones having a fee. We chose the included dinner and breakfast option, dinner was an amazing experience full of flavors and textures we were not used but definitely liked. Breakfast was pretty good, buffet style, but with both Japanese and western options. In terms of location, I think it’s really good depending on what you want to visit. It is just in front of the lake, and has the red line (i think) bus stop right in front of it, which we used to get there from the train station and to get to other tourist spots around the lake. There’s a lawson just outside, the boat ride in the lake and the panoramic ropeway are also just a few minutes walk away which was very convenient.

I stayed for 2 nights as a solo traveller. I enjoyed the Japanese-styled room and the onsen, and the place was peaceful with wonderful views of Mt Fuji and the gardens (I was fortunate to have good weather during my stay). The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of choices and was delicious. The staff were professional and helpful, and there was a handy bus shuttle between the hotel and Kawaguchiko station. I had a wonderful time, and would highly recommend!

We had a fantastic time in Fujiyoshida.

We had a fantastic time in Fujiyoshida. The views were absolutely stunning, and we really wished we could have stayed longer to explore more of the area. One of the reasons we visited was to take our children to Fuji-Q Highland, as they were excited to ride the famous roller coasters. Unfortunately, the queues were extremely long—not only for buying tickets but also for the rides themselves. As we were on a tight schedule, we couldn't wait long enough and had to leave without experiencing the roller coasters. Despite that disappointment, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The scenery was beautiful, and we'd love to return in the future with more time to explore and, hopefully, finally enjoy Fuji-Q Highland.

Yamanakako is a smaller place, but very good if you want to see Fuji without the massive tourist crowds. Kawaguchiko is about 50 minutes by bus if you want to have more shops. Yamanakako has a few cute cafes and nice restaurants, but depending on where you are staying some might be a bit of a walk, so renting a bike makes life a bit easier. Definitely recommend if you are looking for peaceful vibes!

Kofu is a really cool place.

Kofu is a really cool place. It is central to quite a few places and easy to navigate, whether you have a car or are using the public system. Shopping is great. One piece of advice would be, if you don't speak or understand Japanese, make usre you have google translate or earbuds as no one speaks english there.

Hokuto is a bit of an off-the-beaten-track destination, perfect for a weekend or even 3 or four days. Surrounded by beautiful nature, it's a great place for hikers - since it's located at the base of the Yatsugatake mountain range. The adventurers can go explore the hiking trails and waterfalls, but also there are charming cafes, art galleries and international cuisine restaurants splattered in the area. I would avoid going there by car on a Saturday morning, because the Chuo Express Road gets packed and it may take up to six hours to get there from Tokyo (the normal is 2 hours). So if you can, go on a weekday.

We chose Otsuki in order to visit the Yamanashi Prefectorial Maglev Exhibition Centre. The bus stopped outside the station and took us right there. Also it returned us to the station as advertised at 5.15pm. Also Otsuki is the departure point for the Mt Fuji area. So many things to do all around the lakes. So many hidden treasures. Nemba Village near Lk. Saiko is extraordinary. I recommend renting bicycles around Lake Kawaguchi-ko. And seeing the Pagoda near the house, for example. The temple at the base of Mt Fuji (on the way to Lake Yamanaka-ko is a must. And if you like amusement parks, Fuji Q is right there!

The area was boring.

The area was boring. I would recommend staying near Lake Kawaguchi. It's closer to the sites and has more shops and more touristy. I wasted hours on local tourist buses which are very slow, getting to places with good views of Mt Fuji. While it can easily be seem from Yamanakako, there's no great background to it like being on a ropeway and seeing it. Everything is at Kawaguchi. I wish I read more accurate reviews when I researched.
