Hello travelers from around the world! My main business is real estate, but my interest in traditional houses led me to build this villa. I run this villa and "Hashiba-an". Kanazawa has its own charm: Traditional buildings, handcrafts, historical architecture, Sado or tea ceremony, Zen, and Noh or traditional performing arts. These are concentrated in the city and most of the attractions are located within walking distance. During my experience in learning about the tea ceremony, I started thinking about creating a simple and cozy accommodation. I wanted to put the charms of Kanazawa into one place, so I created this villa. Unfortunately, my tea ceremony teacher passed away years ago, but the time I spent with the teacher was truly delightful as we usually practiced after a hard day of work. It was such an enlightening experience as it was just two of us appreciating the beauty of the Kenroku garden in the tea house known as a Chashitsu. Kanazawa is known as Chanoyunomachi or a tea town. So I would highly recommend you experience the tea ceremony if you come to Kanazawa. You will be fascinated by the city and see it from a different perspective.

Property info

Zaimokuan is a newly opened house. The design is based on an analysis of questionnaires for Hashiba-an which I've run since 2016. Many people are interested in a traditional house, but when they actually stay, they realize it is somewhat inconvenient. We recieved reviews like “cold in the winter”, “very small and steep stairs”, “we had to be careful with the noise level for close neighbors.” So, I've sought out more comfort for Zaimokuan: A convenient warm house equipped with TV which you can freely watch without disturbing neighbors and with a feeling of tradition. I wanted to solve all of the issues, so I decided to build from scratch. Despite the difficulties to meet all building standards and ordinances, it turned out great, thanks to the tremendous efforts made by many people. The key element of this house is the Fusuma painting on the sliding doors upstairs. You will be amazed by the painting created by Kahoko Ueshima, who works actively in the ParalymArt. She uses primary colors for her subjects and the dark colors for background, which creates good contrast to make subjects stand out. I believe her painting breathed new life into Zaimoku-an.
