Mimosa Hill was designed by a leading architect (Amila De Mel) who worked with the late, and great, Geoffrey Bawa for many years. Constructed in 2008 and renovated in 2024 the house being modern and minimalist in style keeping in mind certain characteristics of vernacular architecture, is set on elevated gardens among coconut palms and has direct access to the beach below. The built up area is almost 7000 sq feet - out of which 1500 sq feet is open verandas - and the villa consists of two buildings. A single story house of linear design consisting of an ensuite double bedroom, a sitting room / study, the kitchens and has a wide open veranda running its full length at one end of which sits the family dining table. The second building is a two story villa containing the remaining 3 ensuite bedrooms. The master suite is upstairs with a large bathroom with a bathtub overlooking the garden and sea. The remaining ensuite bedrooms - a double and a twin bed room which are interconnected - are on the ground floor and have French windows that lead to the garden. The plot size is approx 1.5 acres and slopes down to the sea. The view from the villa is as lovely as it is unique.

There are no private beaches in Sri Lanka and so whilst empty by European standards there are always other people around. Never leave valuables unattended and for the girls please do not walk alone. Please keep our beach gate closed at all times. We have two swimming bays within walking distance. The gorgeous one you can see from the garden and a second, much larger bay (that has a few bars/ restaurants) that is about a 10 – 15 min’s walk. Follow ‘our’ bay to the far end (west) and walk on the tarmac track up the hill and down the other side. If you fancy a walk into town this is the way to go and when doing so please cover shoulders and do not walk in swimwear.
