Riad Maiya is a favorite guesthouse for travellers visiting Marrakech. Riad Maya is located on a quiet residential Derb with a mix of riads and local residents. It is a two minute walk from the unmissable Maison de la Photographie and two very nice restaurants (Le Foundouk and Le Trou Au Mur). The beautiful 16th-century Madrassa Ben Youssef (once the largest Islamic college in the Maghreb) is just a five minute walk away. And next to it is Marrakech’s oldest site, the Almoravid Koubba, surrounded by lovely cafes and the souks. In our immediate neighbourhood, enjoy the bustling local shops of Rue Tachenbacht, which will lead you south to the Ben Saleh mosque and, ten minutes onwards to the famous Jema El Fna. To the north is Bab El Khemis with its famous flea market, and a five minute walk east will bring you to the olfactory experience of the tannery! Riad Maiya is located within walking distance of the lovely Dar El Bacha area and restaurants such as Cafe Atay, Cafe Des Epices, Terrasse des Epices, NOMAD, Le Jardin, and Maison Arabe. Also in this area, enjoy the historic charm of Le Jardin Secret, an amazingly tranquil restored garden, perfect for a mint tea or a Casablanca beer to relax after a morning haggling in the souks. Alternatively, treat your skin to a cleansing Hammam in one of the many dotted around - from the simple public one for a very local experience to luxurious spas such as Hammam de la Rose. Other highly-recommended attractions a slightly longer, but pleasant, walk from Riad Maiya are: the Badi Palace, Bahia Palace, the Mellah (former Jewish area with its museum synagogue) and the Saadian Tombs. There’s so much to see, do and experience in old Marrakech (not to mention the “new town” Gueliz, which is a good walk or a quick taxi ride from us, Jardin Majorelle, or the Museum of African Contemporary Art).
