Voorhout sits in the heart of the South Holland bulb region, one of the most beautiful and underrated areas of the Netherlands. Not only in spring, when the tulip, daffodil and hyacinth fields are in full bloom, but there's plenty to enjoy throughout the year. By bike, you're right in the middle of it all in minutes. From Blossombed you can ride into the fields within five minutes, and Keukenhof is just 3 kilometres away. Want to go a little further? The beach at Noordwijk is 5 kilometres, offering wide sandy beaches, beach bars and a pleasant town centre that's worth visiting outside the season too. The area is well suited for relaxed day trips. Leiden, with its canals, museums and lively city centre, is half an hour by bike or fifteen minutes by car. The Hague and Haarlem are both within 30 minutes. And Schiphol is 21 kilometres away, handy for early flights or late arrivals. In Voorhout and Lisse you'll find a few good restaurants and a bakery well worth getting up early for. Not overcrowded tourist spots, but proper Dutch village centres with character. In short: peaceful here, but never isolated.
