Our charming B&B Het Blije Schaap (The Happy Sheep) is located in a Frisian farmhouse dating from 1883, situated directly on the sea dike in Blije (Friesland). We accept only one booking at a time, so you will always have the accommodation entirely to yourself. The large guest room is a spacious, stylishly furnished room (for up to 2 people) with a television, free Wi-Fi, and a beautiful view of the sea dike. If you are travelling with more than 2 people, you can also make use of the smaller guest room (for up to 2 people), which also offers free Wi-Fi and a lovely view over the meadows. If you are coming with two people and would like to have a separate room for each person, we charge an additional fifty euro per night (to be paid upon arrival). If desired, an extra baby or children’s bed can be added. The guest rooms are separated by the bathroom. Both rooms are located on the first floor. The ground floor of the B&B is entirely at your disposal. Enjoy the extensive breakfast here, play a game (we have a cupboard full of them), or grab a cup of coffee (coffee corner and minibar available), pick up a good book, and relax on the sofa. Pets are welcome upon prior arrangement. However, they are not allowed in the bedrooms/guest rooms and must stay on the ground floor. There is a charging station for electric cars with two connectors located one kilometre from our house.

My husband Rob and I originally come from the central part of the country. During our search for a new home, this B&B quickly crossed our path, and before we knew it, this special place was ours. We didn’t have to think long about the name. The first thing we saw when we drove up was the dike with grazing sheep. And well… that in Blije (“Happy”)… In addition to the happy sheep and our (usually) happy selves, we have an extremely happy Australian Shepherd named Beer. In the B&B you’ll come across a few signs with “Beer’s Lessons”. You don’t have to follow them, but sometimes they’re surprisingly sensible… Our little menagerie is completed by two kittens, Kobus and Suus. They’re happy too… At Het Blije Schaap, everything revolves around hospitality, relaxation, taking care of our guests, and slowing down.

B&B Het Blije Schaap is located close to the harbour of Holwerd. It’s the perfect starting point for a day trip to Ameland, Schiermonnikoog, and the wider Wadden Sea area, which has been voted the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands (the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea). It’s a stunning region for walking and cycling, and an ideal base for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and anyone wanting to explore Friesland. In the surrounding area, you’ll find countless attractions, such as the Frisian Lakes, National Park De Alde Feanen, and the famous "Elfstedenstadjes". There are beautiful walking and cycling routes throughout the region. Birdwatching, mudflat hiking, museums… it’s all possible, and we’re happy to provide you with tips.
