Discover a unique stay on historic ground at the former Gibostad Coastal Fort, a Cold War naval outpost established in the 1950s and active until 1992. Once home to Norwegian naval personnel, the fort’s sleeping quarters have now been carefully transformed into a warm, comfortable guesthouse where history and tranquillity meet. The military fortress built to shield a nation and defend its democratic freedoms has gently been transformed into a sanctuary of herbs, healing and renewal. Where sailors once stood watch, rows of medicinal plants now flourish, offering nourishment for body, spirit and mind. The heavy purpose of defence has given way to a quieter mission: promoting health, balance and wellbeing. A peaceful landscape, history and healing coexist, reminding us that places once shaped by conflict can be reclaimed for life-giving purpose.
Located on the quiet eastern shore of Senja, the guesthouse offers an inviting blend of original character and modern comfort. The atmosphere preserves the spirit of the past while giving you everything you need for a relaxing stay.

Stay a few nights or a few weeks, our guesthouse offers an experience you will not find anywhere else. : Located 71km from Bardufoss airport, and 93km from Tromsø airport. From Tromsø you can also arrived with the convenient high-speed passenger boat direct to the island, with bus corresponding direct to Gibostad in front of the House of Senja Gallery store. the largest gift store/gallery in Troms. From the guesthouse you walk 10 min to the local food store, post office, pub, the house of Senja Gallery and the local harbour. See the island and book a day-tour with one of our guides and ask the staff at the House of Senja for advice on how to best explore the island.
