We are delighted to be the new owners of Kingsdown Manor (March 2022) and we are honoured to continue its legacy of providing wonderful accommodation and beautiful event spaces for groups of up to 110 people for weddings and other special occasions. We are currently working hard to improve the grounds and the Manor to further beautify and preserve this special place. You may see the odd bit of garden still in progress. We have great plans to extend the walkable garden area and we will be working on this and improving things each season. We are sure you are going to love it as much as we do!

*Our beautiful historic south canterbury Bed & Breakfast stands dramatically on the skyline with it's turretted manor, gorgous wooden arched windows, high ceilings and beautiful decor. *Located 6 minutes south of Timaru, 8 minutes to excellent Restaurants & Cafes *See Little Blue Penguins at Marine Parade (October - February at sunset) *2 mins drive to the sea via Ellis Road with a 20 min coastal walk to Jacks Point lighthouse -great views. *Every guest has a continental breakfast provided in their suite along with a fridge and tea and coffee facilities. *The outdoor saltwater pool is available mid December until end of February. It is heated to 26 degrees. We can supply you with extra towels when you want to take a dip. Please just let us know you are keen to use it in advance and we will show you how to access the pool. *Take a day trip to Lake Tekapo or Oamaru and we can give you helpful tips beforehand. *The shared lounge can be used by guests who have booked the Double Queen Suite and or by friends staying in another one of our suites at the same time. *Chat to Mel about weddings and events which we can host here. Check out our website! ROOM DESCRIPTIONS: *Queen Suite (The Fairytale suite) has a luxury Queen bed, a small ensuite, smart TV and vintage tub-chairs and dining furniture. This stunning freshly renovated room has a courtyard view and is in one of the oldest parts of the building c1904. *The Double Queen Suite (The Sleeping Beauty Suite) has 2x Queen Beds, north facing and light filled, has a small fridge and dining table, a smart tv and modern ensuite. It has a lovely outlook on both sides of the room. One bed is Plush and the other is Medium/firm. *The King Bed Suite (The Turret Suite) has a very comfortable King Bed, magnificent soaker tub in the turret, large shower, luxury fittings, dining table, smart TV, 2-seater couch, and kitchenette, views to farmland and sea.

We are situated on the Timaru Loop from which tourists can explore Lakes (Tekapo and Hawea), Mountains (Hutt, Dobson, Fox and Cook/Aoraki), cycle trails and the much loved Caroline Bay Beach voted in the top 10 in NZ. We are not far from Geraldine which has boutique stores and fantastic places to eat such as the Barkers restaurant. There are lovely walks and cycle ways along the Timaru coast nearby (see Venture Timaru online) and Fishing and hunting guided tours. Travelers have been known to stay here before going on to Dunedin and they love to stop in at Riverstone Castle only 45 minutes away for a tour of the castle and lunch at the excellent restaurant and gift shops. We are so fortunate to see mountains and the sea on either side of the property and this is just magical in winter. If you want a farmhouse style cafe for brunch, check out Harlau House less than 10 minutes away. Timaru has movie theatres, an aquatic center, ale houses, organic food farmers market on Saturday mornings and plenty of interesting shops and facilities. If you fancy spotting the blue penguins located at the end of Caroline Bay, just check out Timaru Penguins online for viewing advice. On a warm evening it is quite a lovely (and free) activity but be prepared for it to be quite late (10pm) before you can snap any pictures. We love taking a quick walk to Jacks Point Lighthouse which is only a 2 minute drive from Kingsdown Manor at Ellis Road. The path is well laid out and takes you along the coast with a nice rest stop at the lighthouse! This is also perfect for a bike ride to town. It is also possible to cycle down Bristol Road and it has much less traffic typically. We do not provide bikes but you are welcome to bring your own.
