Designed and furnished for one guest group at a time . . . reunions, birthday parties, retreats, travelling friends. A beautiful place, completely detached from the noise, the lights, the everyday. Yet modern and elegant, safe and private, connected by high speed StarLink.

After the destructive 2011 earthquake we engaged Warren & Mahoney, New Zealand’s premier architects, to design a ‘common house’ - a place for family and friends. This place is magnificent - our Lansdowne Farm. Bordering 2km on the Pacific, 2 hours drive north of Christchurch, in 2017 we began to offer this special place to stay and be together, and exclusive access to all the surrounding land and valleys. We live elsewhere on the farm, as does our Farming Manager and Housekeeper. We grant exclusivity and only as much contact as they wish or want.

The Conway Flats pastures were formed by geologic uplift: these land benches were once beaches. Backed to the west by high hills, Lansdowne Farm faces east along the Pacific, farming cattle and sheep on 570 spectacular hectares. The accessible beach is wild and free - some sand, some stoney, visited by seals at rest, seabirds, dolphins in the waves looking for lunch. We offer umbrellas, ground cloths, beach towels, a surf fishing kit, picnic equipment … whatever activity our guests would like it is our pleasure to provide and offer some guidance on direction, safety and communications. Guest freedom and liberty. 50 minutes drive north to Kaikoura. 45 minutes south to Cheviot. Grocery stores available in either. If a guest really wants to leave Lansdowne, Kaikoura has flourishing whale and dolphin watching-visiting businesses, as well as good restaurants, a small airport and several notable attrations.
