Our place will really suit you if you're looking for somewhere quiet, just 5 minutes from Nelson, surrounded by nature, with lots of Tuis and other birdlife. It's a peaceful, safe neighbourhood. The self-contained downstairs apartment is below the main house (where we live) and has an en-suite bedroom accessed by sliding doors directly from outside. Adjacent is a living area with a Super King size Ecosa sofa bed. The sofa bed converts in one easy move (it pulls down) and has a quality bed-like mattress. We provide the bedding. There is a mini-kitchen area where you can make basic breakfast - there is a toaster, kettle, Nespresso machine and a microwave. We provide plates, dishes, bowls, cups, glasses, cutlery etc so you can make toast, coffee etc. There is a dining table with 4 chairs and an outside coffee table with 2 chairs. There is Wi-Fi (High speed Fibre). There is no TV. The bathroom has a shower, vanity, heated towel rail. We provide towels and toiletries.

We’re a small family with two children, originally from the UK and Vietnam, now happily based in Nelson. Atawhai is a lovely, leafy pocket on Nelson’s northern edge, prized for its peaceful feel, birdsong mornings and easy access into town. Set on Strathaven Place in Dodson Valley, you’re tucked into a quiet, safe neighbourhood where the pace slows the moment you turn off the main road. Native bush and established gardens frame the valley, so it feels wonderfully private and green, with tūī, kererū and bellbirds often providing the soundtrack. Despite the tranquillity, you’re only a few minutes’ drive from central Nelson, the waterfront, cafés, supermarkets and the region’s best beaches and wineries, making it an ideal base for both relaxing and exploring. For everyday essentials, there’s a handy Four Square just down the road – more like a mini supermarket than a convenience store – perfect for picking up supplies without heading into town. From this elevated part of Atawhai you’ll also catch glimpses of the sea, a gentle reminder that Tasman Bay is close by, even when you’re enjoying the calm and quiet of the valley.
