Company info

As a family, we began hosting cyclists through “Warmshowers” and found such joy in it that we decided to open our own Guest Lodge once the children had grown up. We fell in love with 74 on Lockhart. Originally built by the Nicolson family, the house has undergone extensive renovations, transforming it into a charming property full of character and history. Since purchasing it in 2020, we have lovingly added our own personal touches. Hosting guests has become a passion for us, and we cherish the opportunity to meet new people and share our home. Our vision has always been to create a warm and peaceful space where guests can feel at home. We are passionate about providing a memorable experience, whether you are here to relax, explore, or celebrate a special occasion. We strive to make every guest feel welcome and cared for from the moment you arrive.

74 on Lockhart is the cherished family homestead of Ewan and Anne Kirk, set in rural Oturehua, Central Otago. Surrounded by farmland, our homestead offers four guest bedrooms, a private guest lounge, a games room and wide open spaces to relax and unwind, whether you’re here to explore the local attractions or simply enjoy the tranquility. Each of our four guest bedrooms have queen beds, and are uniquely different in layout, character and views. For your enjoyment we accept one booking at a time. We offer a B & B style continental breakfast with fresh fruit and home baking. We also offer BBQ meal packs (on request) for self catering on the bbq in the courtyard. We are located on Lockhart Road, 6km from Oturehua township. Please note you need to enter Lockhart Road from State Highway 85 (as it is a no exit road). If you are biking the Otago Central Rail Trail and would prefer to leave your bikes in Oturehua overnight we can easily arrange this for you. Please email us in advance so we can give you more information and arrange for a courtesy car.

Neighborhood info

Oturehua is a small village nestled into Rough Ridge. Originally a thriving gold mining town today we attract writers, readers and creative folk along with our rural farming families. Gilchrists Store is a working general store and a treasure trove of ‘old’ .. overflowing with antique memorabilia .. worth a visit. Hayes Engineering Works is a historic settlement .. a homestead, engineering factory and cafe. The small village of St Bathans is the remains of historic gold mining in the district. Today the blue lake and lovely old Vulcan Hotel are the attractions for locals and visitors alike. A short 10 - 15 minute drive from 74 on Lockhart. The Oteake Conservation Park runs across the Ida and Hawkdun Ranges .. it is spectacular and worth a drive to explore this remote and beautiful landscape. Falls Dam was constructed in 1931 to provide irrigation to make farming in this landscape viable. Accessed by a gravel road on the way to St Bathans, the drive and scenery beautifully showcase our raw and remote landscapes .. It is a popular fishing spot for locals. Naseby is another Central Otago gem of a village. With around 120 full-time residents and nestled up against the Naseby forest it has a quaint and alpine feel. The Royal Hotel is at the heart of the village serving hearty fare and local banter. As is the popular Black Forest Cafe.
