CASA DA AVÓ is located in the historical zone of Vila do Porto, just steps away from the Santa Maria Museum and the Fossils Museum. In the vicinity: Municipal Library, restaurants/bars, souvenir shops, wine stores, supermarkets, pharmacy, etc. Near Forte of São Brás (lookout offers stunning panoramic view of the ocean, marina, harbour, and fishing boats). CASA DA AVÓ is 10 min. away from Praia Formosa, the incomparable whitesand beach in the Azores. Santa Maria has magnificent walking trails for both beginners and pros, and is a worldwide known place to observe fossils. Areas you must visit: The island's ocean bays - Anjos (ecological reserve with ocean water pool), São Lourenço (natural and regional reserve with beach and ocean water pool, vineyards), Maia (sea embraced by volcanic rock, vineyards, ocean water pool, and the Gonçalo Velho Lighthouse); Poço da Pedreira (Sta. Bárbara), Calçada do Gigante (Malbusca), Barreiro da Faneca (Milagres); antique parishes and churches all over the island. The climate is temperate maritime, and the driest and mildest of all the Azores. Welcome to Santa Maria.
I was born in Vila do Porto, Santa Maria. While still a young adult, I moved to Montreal, Canada. In 2007, I returned, with my family, to this peaceful and charming island.

A 10 min a pé do cais do porto, da marina, clube naval, e Forte de São Brás, com vista panorâmica do mar, cais, e barcos piscatórios. A Praia Formosa, a melhor praia de areia branca dos Açores, fica a 7 km de Vila do Porto. O Pico Alto (591m), oferece uma vista circular deslumbrante - vilas com casas típicas marienses, vegetação endémica, vastos vales e enseadas, recortes litorais de interesse, e claro, a nossa maior riqueza, o mar.  O nosso clima é temperado marítimo e o mais ameno e seco do todo o arquipélago. Áreas a visitar: as maravilhosas baías ao longo da nossa costa: Anjos (Reserva Natural Regional, piscina natural), São Lourenço (Reserva Natural Regional, serra e praia, habitat para nidificação de aves marítimas, piscina), Maia (rochas vulcânicas, vinhedos entre paredes de pedra, Farol Gonçalo Velho, e piscina natural). Poço da Pedreira (Sta. Bárbara), Calçada do Gigante (Malbusca), Barreiro da Faneca (Milagres). A ilha possui inúmeros trilhos, e é a única para observação de fósseis no arquipélago.
