Tom
The Manor House dates from the late 17th century with art and antiques spanning the centuries. The property is walled within a small village and quiet. The house, dating back to the original owner, has been in one family. The character of the house has been meticulously kept intact with a recently updated kitchen. Guests will enjoy privacy as the house is divided into 2 wings. There are original paintings and prints throughout along with period antiques. The big surprise is the trap door in the cavernous kitchen that leads down to a fully functional medieval-style dungeon!
Tom is an American artist from NY whose work is in museum and private collections around the world. In the 1990's, Tom became art director and part owner of DeMask, at the time the largest manufacturer of fetish clothing in the world and was instrumental in opening a store in NYC, making films, and participating in the legendary Europerve events in Amsterdam. He has lived in Amsterdam, owned a boat, loves to travel, cook, read, entertain, and enjoy good wine. His outgoing nature has cultivated friends around the world.
Chosendo, a village of 200 people, sits at the foot of the Douro wine region, one of the most spectacular areas of Portugal. For wine enthusiasts, this is the place to be! Take a lazy drive through the terraced hills to the valley and the beautiful Douro River and enjoy stopping in at wineries and Port houses along the way. From the house, a 10 minute drive takes you to a spring-fed recreational lake for a cool dip on a hot afternoon. The Douro region and the Portuguese interior has very little traffic with beautiful scenery. For Americans, there are no cops hiding in the bushes! Amenities are 10 - 20 minutes away, the city of Viseu (recently voted the best city to live in Portugal) is 45 - 1 hour.
