Mont Astral is an Algarve residence located in the mountains of Monchique, providing unique style suites and private studios, a pool & garden with stunning sea views, surrounded by the peace of nature. Its privileged location makes it the ideal place to stay if you want to explore both the Algarve south coast and the Costa Vicentina west coast, which are just half an hour away, combining beaches, mountains, rivers, wild nature, and authentic little towns, all in one place all year around.

Our residence is located in a neighbourhood with small winding roads leading up the mountainside of the Foía top in the Sierra of Monchique. Wild nature, cork oaks, scattered villas and scenic drives or walks among ancient cultivated terraced landscapes, full of citrus trees and flowers. Monchique has always been famous for its fruits and vegetables, and locals still live very authentic lives here, growing their own produce in their gardens, and keeping their own chicken, goats or sheep. It's the perfect place to wind down, relax and be more present in the simple joys of life in a natural and peaceful landscape away from the touristic crowds. 5 minutes drive up the road there's a great selection of hearty restaurants serving the typical local dishes. Monchique is 5 min away by car and a cute little town to walk around. The mountaintop of Foia (10 min drive) offers spectacular views where you can see both the south and the west coast at once from a panoramic viewpoint where the "end of Europe" south-western corner of Portugal is visible. Via Algarviana, a vast network of hiking trails with shorter and longer hikes crossing the whole Algarve region passes by close to our house. (viaalgarviana.org) Rota Vicentina (rotavicentina.com) is the equivalent on the west coast with well-signalled trails for hiking and cycling. We'd be happy to arrange for a pick-up at agreed meeting point if you'd like to hike away in the morning and still get back home comfortably. It's an equal delight to explore the region all seasons around the year. Summer of course for enjoying hot days just relaxing at the swimming pool or discovering some of the countless stunning beaches around. But our favourite season is actually fall & winter when the beaches are empty but you still get very warm and pleasant sunny days, or spring when you can go hiking among fields overflowing with wild flowers. You'll need a car or local taxi to get around and the area is full of scenic drives.
