Patio São Vicente cottages, sandwiched against the 13th century wall of Lisbon, are a collection of restored artisan cottages surrounding a peaceful courtyard, mixing the traditional with a modern aesthetic and hidden away in the historical centre of the city between Alfama and Sao Vicente. Climb up a small set of well worn steps and enter into a typical Lisbon patio. Patios in Lisbon were a collection of small houses built for workers and families designed around an shared open space. Designed by the “Paratelier" architects using only Portuguese artisans and designers, the interiors are cosy, comfortable and carefully crafted with custom carpentry. The houses are historically important as they incorporate the 13th century defensive wall “muralha Fernandina” into the architecture. The quiet, shady patio with your own outdoor table and chairs is the perfect work or rest space after a long day’s sightseeing. Or you can also choose to join your neighbors at the large communal tables. The patio is a natural space for groups, friends or extended families to gather and enjoy time together, while still having the privacy of their own houses.
