Property info

Where the Ria Formosa Meets Refined Living This two-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment was conceived as a retreat rather than a rental. A professional interior design team shaped every corner — materials chosen with intention, lighting that shifts the mood from morning to evening, and a quiet elegance that settles over you the moment you step inside. The fully equipped kitchen makes self-catering genuinely pleasurable. Outside, two private areas extend the living space: a shaded lounge for long afternoons and a separate dining terrace for evenings under the Algarve sky. The building reads as a resort in the truest sense. Five pools serve the complex — a heated indoor pool, a dedicated children's pool, a central outdoor pool at garden level, and two infinity pools crowning the fifth floor of each block, both framing an uninterrupted panorama over the Ria Formosa lagoon and the marina below. The rooftop gym shares that same view. At ground level, a lush garden designed for stillness completes the picture. Beyond the property, the experience deepens. Guests have access to private boat excursions aboard a classic Riva — one of the most beautiful vessels ever built — gliding through the sheltered waters of the Ria Formosa, past salt marshes, flamingos, and ancient barrier islands. The journey ends, if you choose, with lunch at Estaminé, a restaurant set on the Ilha Deserta that serves some of the finest seafood on the southern Portuguese coast. Olhão itself rewards those who slow down. A fishing town that wears its history with quiet pride, it holds more character per cobblestone than most Algarve destinations ten times its size. The covered market — fresh fish, ripe produce, the smell of the sea — is worth waking up early for.

Neighborhood info

Olhão & the Ria Formosa — A World of Its Own Olhão does not announce itself. It earns you slowly. The town grew from the sea outward — fishermen built flat-roofed white houses with terraced miradouros from which they once watched for their boats on the Atlantic. Walk the old Barreta neighbourhood in the early morning and the city reveals its quieter self: narrow passages opening onto hidden courtyards, hand-painted tiles catching the light, the market already alive down by the water. The Mercado de Olhão is a reason to come here in its own right. Two iron-and-brick pavilions built in 1912 sit side by side along the waterfront — one for fish, one for fruit and vegetables. The fish market is among the finest in Portugal. Come before ten. On the water, the experience changes register entirely. The Ria Formosa stretches over 60 kilometres of protected coastline — tidal channels, salt marshes, and barrier islands ranked among the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal. Flamingos wade in the shallows. The light, especially late afternoon, does things to the water that are difficult to explain. Guests can explore it all aboard a classic Riva, the celebrated Italian wooden speedboat whose lines have not been improved upon since the 1950s. The vessel itself becomes part of the memory. The islands deserve time. Culatra is a fishing village with no cars and no ambition to become anything else. Armona's beaches stay uncrowded well into the season. Ilha Deserta is raw and unhurried, and lunch at Estaminé — fresh fish, a terrace over the sand — is an experience of particular pleasure. Some afternoons are best spent simply kayaking the lagoon channels at dusk, when the birds return and the light drops gold over the salt flats.
