Once upon a time ... ... in the most beautiful countryside of Portugal ... in one of the greatest European spots ... in a countryside area far from the big cities ... in a small place immersed in history ... in a typical Solar Beirão, which is quiet but full of life… And that’s how our accommodation was born! It was here the birth place of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, best known as Marquis of Pombal, noble Portuguese diplomat and statesman, who was the Kingdom’s Secretary of State during the reign of King D. José I, who is known until nowadays as one of the most controversial and charismatic figures of the Portuguese History. The Manor House was built in the second half of the 18th century by Manuel António Correia de Carvalho, commissioner of the Holy Office, whose coat of arms adorns the main doorway and that announces a careful model of baroque taste, highlighting the chapel itself where a beautiful canvas by Pascoal Parente, a famous Italian painter, stands out. The Manor House is classified as a Monument of Public Interest.

The House is located in the Main Square of Sernancelhe, and is the one who stands out the most in the village, located scarcely 20 meters from the Sernancelhe’s Mother Church - Mother Church of Saint John the Baptist, 30 meters from the Father Cândido Museum, 30 meters from the Sernancelhe’s Municipal Library and 40 meters from the Sernancelhe Pillory. Nearby there is the Vilar Dam (Barragem de Vilar) where you can enjoy the lake’s small beaches or choose between water sports activities, endless walks in the nature, cycling on dirt roads or jogging. If you prefer you can stay in the village enjoying long evenings observing the daily life of its people or staying indoors in the manor house, accompanied by a book or simply doing nothing. It's time to relax, settle down and let nature do its magic! Sernancelhe is the region’s ‘chestnut capital’, where its population produces the Portugal’s best chestnut, recognized already with several honourable mentions. In the municipality it stands out the Nossa Senhora da Lapa Sanctuary - a place of great Catholic pilgrimage and one of the most important sanctuaries of the Iberian Peninsula.
