Zaire Lodge began as a dream — a dream shared by Dörthe Premer and Vando Vieira. During a drive through Vando’s hometown, they stumbled upon a pristine piece of nature that immediately captured their hearts. It was perfect, and they knew it had to be theirs. Acquiring the property was just the beginning. Through reinvention after reinvention, they discovered that minimalism suited their lifestyle and capacity. The idea of a small, sustainable retreat began to take shape. For Vando, it was also the realization of a longtime dream: a DIY tiny house project. Fast forward 3½ years — and a single old shipping container had been transformed into a cozy, inventive, and unique lodge. Countless hours of sweat, problem-solving, creative inventions, and thinking outside the box went into turning that container into the warm, welcoming space that guests now enjoy.
