Pokljuka is a high karst plateau (~1.300 m) so starting hikes from here gives you a bit of altitude cushion before you begin steeper ascents. This helps reduce fatigue. Hut‑openings: many mountain huts are open only in summer months (mid‑June to early/late September), depending on altitude. Afternoon storms are common in the Alps; plan to be down or at shelter before they hit. For hiking pick a route fitting your fitness & experience. Carry the essentials (map, GPS / good trail map, water, food). Obey park rules: no wild camping in Triglav NP, follow hut rules. Protect nature: leave no trace, minimize waste, respect quiet times in huts. Here are some huts around Pokljuka / on routes in Triglav NP, with elevation and time / distance estimates from typical starting points: 1. Planinska koča na Uskovnici: a beautiful and easily accessible mountain hut on 1.154 m altitude ;  50 minutes walk from Pokljuka Plateau. Low altitude, scenic, nice for a quick day trip. 2. Blejska koča na Lipanci is also a beautiful and easily accessible mountain hut near Pokljuka Plateau in Triglav National Park, and it’s a great option for day hikes.
