Hello travellers! 400 square metres of villa on a 2,500 square metre parcel of secluded land. Villa Anton is a former Austro-Hungarian dairy built in 1902 that supplied the port city of Trieste with fresh milk and other dairy products. This continued after World War 1 after borders changed and it became part of the Kingdom of Italy and after the Second World War it fell under the regime of the Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia where dairy production ceased. The property is now located in the independent Republic of Slovenia and was bought by a local who has been living in Australia for over 50 years. Since 2005 it has been meticulously restored with the original stone work remaining in intact and a carefully decorated interior . Its serene surroundings and fresh air give it a unique charm rarely found elsewhere. Spacious and set away from any traffic or neighbours it is truly an oasis for those seeking privacy, comfort and access to nearby towns, attractions or nature.
Your host John,from Australia, is managing the property and is an English Teacher who has taught in Australia,Slovenia and Austria. Having lived in Slovenia for over twenty years has given him wide knowledge about the country, people and its attractions. A keen hiker, musician and traveller and emapathetic to travellers.
The Villa Anton is located in the Littoral region of Slovenia and is only 30 minutes by car from Trieste, 40 minutes from Opatija on the Croatian coast, 40 mintes from Piran on the Slovenian coast, 15 minutes from the Škocijan caves, 25 minutes from the Postojna caves and 30 minutes from Lipica Stud Farm home of the Lipizzan horses. For keen hikers there is Mount Slavnik 1,028 metres with a hut that serves food and beverages. The village and surrounding have farmers who produce local small goods such as sausages, ham, salamis and cheese.The local speciallty is "Brinovec", a Schnaps made from juniper berries and very similar to gin. There are also many restaurants nearby that provide typical local dishes, Slovenian and international cuisine.
