Our house is one of the oldest in Bohinjska Bistrica, built in 1882. In the past it was a local Gostilna or Inn, with an adjacent bakery -and the old mill stream runs nearby! Despite its old, traditional character, modern facilities were installed about 16 years ago especially in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry to make your stay comfortable. There are 4 double bedrooms, 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs, and 2 sofa beds offering extra sleeping space for youngsters. In 2022, we made changes upstairs, particularly to the Verandah bedroom. Upstairs there is a large lounge with TV, Radio, sofas and a dining table for entertaining. Books and games and puzzles are also stored in the cupboards and shelves in this lounge. There are copious radiators (oil heated) throughout the house and a log burning stove upstairs to warm those cold winter nights. In the summer the old, stout walls keep the house cool. No garden: but step out of the door and you will find farms, hills and mountains! There is an upstairs balcony with table and seating and a small patio outside the kitchen again with table and chairs and a floral border. There are two parking spaces adjacent to the house, at your own risk, (particularly in the winter with the risk of falling snow, - it may be best to use the further spaces in the lay-by round the corner. Bikes and skis can be stored in the garage.

Our family is a mixture of Slovene and British, and a family of linguists into the bargain speaking Spanish, French, German, Croatian as well as English and Slovene. We have had the house for several years and are happy to share it with other families who will cherish it as we do. Darja and Tadej at the Tourist Office will take care of you on our behalf during your holiday and offer advice and knowledge about the beautiful Gorenska region and the village of Bistrica. The Old House is situated in the centre of the village just a short walk using the path opposite to the shops, the bank, the PO, the bars, restaurants and the swimming pool in the hotel. The bus to the lake takes about 15 minutes and leaves from outside the bakery near the bridge as you leave the village. To catch the bus to Bled, Radovlica, Kranj or Ljubljana the bus leaves from the Obcina, (Town Hall) in the opposite direction. There is a wonderful walking/cycling path alongside the Sava River leading all the way to the lake, and walks and hikes which take you up into the mountains. Triglav of course is the highest mountain challenging climbers in Slovenia. Bohinj lake is the largest in Slovenia and is an ideal location for swimming, sun-bathing, canoing and kayaking. There is a boat, and the local bus continues to Zlatarog at the far end of the lake. Fishing and cycling are other popular pursuits. Local guides can be hired and the tourist office can provide you with maps and information. Lake Bled is about 30 minutes by car and provides a busier alternative to Bohinj.
