High Tatras, in particular, Strbske Pleso is my most beloved place in Slovakia. If you seek some peace after stressful weeks in work and you enjoy hiking, skiing jogging and fresh air, this is the place you can always go and stay two or three nights.
I am currently a third year PhD student at the University of Vienna, Department of Statistics. Orginally, I come from city of Banska Bystrica, which is also set in a beautiful region. I did my master studies in Prague and meanwhile, I studied in Germany, Switzerland and US. All these places have their genius loci but always, I am a stranger there. In High Tatras, I feel Im home and Happy:).
There are two main seasons for turists in Tatras. The summer season starts by the end of May and ends in October. during this period, particularly in August/September, Tatras are attractive for Hikers. From Strbske Pleso, you can reach to Popradske Pleso, Solisko, Waterfall Skok and some other easy tracks. For advanced hikes, the main attractions are peaks Rysy and Krivan. The winter season starts in November/December and ussually enfs with Easter. In the winter, you can enjoy skiing in Solisko and/or which you can reach by skibus (departs from parking lot in front of our hotel every 30 minutes) in 5 minutes, or you can simply take a winter hike to Popradske pleso and have a traditional drink there s.c. Tatransky caj. Besides, you can enjoy walks, restaurants and stands in the neighbourhood. The best walks are to the lake Strbske pleso (10 min. walk) and to Lakes of Love (5 min walk). In case you come for longer ( say for 1 week) take a special mountain train to Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Lomnica. The train station is just next to the hotel. In Tatranska Lomnica, you can visit the breathtaking cabin to Lomnicky Stit, but book it at least 24h ahead. Good luck enjoy and relax;)
