The innkeepers were very clear with instructions about what to do if they were not at home when we arrived. Brilliantly, the code for the front door was the last four numbers of the phone we used when booking. They were at home, so we got a warm...

An authentic period B&B. Outfitted as it would have been in the late 1800's but modern facilities (e.g. bathroom). Talia was super friendly and helped with hints of what to do around the area (since the Appomattox Court House complex was closed...

We had the suite and we thoroughly enjoyed the extra space. The breakfast was outstanding! You may want to have them prepare you dinner as there are few restaurants in the area. I think they require 72 hour notice for dinner.

The Babcock House is a lovingly restored historic inn, originally built in 1884. Our home offers six guest rooms and one suite, each thoughtfully furnished with period antiques that reflect the character and history of the house. This is not a modern hotel experience, but a slower, more personal stay rooted in hospitality. Guests are invited to settle in, enjoy quiet spaces, and experience the rhythms of an earlier time—while still having the comforts of private baths, central heating and air, WiFi, and television. Our parlor is filled with books, board games, and puzzles to enjoy, and our porches offer a peaceful place to sit and take in the pace of small-town life. Many guests find that the most meaningful parts of their stay are the simplest: an unhurried evening, a shared meal, and time to truly rest. Staying at The Babcock House is centered around a slower, more intentional experience. We offer a freshly prepared breakfast each morning, and optional dinner service in the evening with advance planning. We encourage guests to arrive with time to settle in before dinner and enjoy the full experience. Our style of hospitality is a good fit for those looking to step away from a fast pace and enjoy a quiet, restful stay.
We are a family-run inn—Charles, Talia, and our two boys—who made the move from Maryland to Appomattox to create a life centered around hospitality and home. Charles brings years of experience in professional kitchens, and food is an important part of what we offer here. Talia’s heart is in creating a warm, welcoming space where guests can truly feel at ease.
Appomattox is a quiet, rural town best known for its place in history as the site where the Civil War came to a close in 1865. Today, it offers a slower pace of life, local shops, and access to outdoor spaces like lakes, trails, and scenic countryside. Guests who enjoy history, small towns, and a more peaceful setting tend to feel most at home here. Those seeking a busier or more urban destination may prefer nearby larger cities.
