Bill and Sue Dunigan are the new innkeepers. They are currently retired with 38 years of hospitality experience. Bill is an avid outdoorsman and hiker having thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2021 Sue loves to entertain guests and do whatever it takes to make them feel at home. There goal is to serve you in the best way possible

Built in 1816 as a stagecoach stop. the Sterling Inn in Caratunk was the first bar, dance hall, and post office in the area. Today it’s the perfect New England lodging choice for families or large groups with its warm cozy atmosphere, hardwood floors, and large gathering room with a wood stove. Renovated in 2016 and 2017, The Sterling Inn has 15 charming bedrooms that feel just like home and also 2 large living areas and a larger wrap-around porch. [Note: all guest rooms are on the second floor; the cross-corridor includes two grade-changes with steps. Six bathrooms are each private, but not en-suite]. Whether you are rafting, snowmobiling, fishing, hiking that Appalachian Trail, or just looking for a cozy bed and breakfast style getaway or unique meeting space, the Sterling Inn is a perfect home away from home — Maine lodging at its coziest.

The Upper Kennebec Valley is home to a wide variety of outdoor activities year round. Try out the class-four rapids, whitewater rafting or kayaking the Kennebec gorge, or enjoy a casual float by canoe or a tubing expedition. Hiking is available for both experienced hikers and novices. Check out Moxie Falls, said to be the tallest waterfall in New England, just a short hike in from the paved road, or hike a section of the Appalachian Trail.
