George and Gladys were both retired diplomats, he American and she Peruvian so knowing how to connect with people was second nature. Purchased as the family home by Gladys and her then husband Gladys found herself in need to cover mortgage after her husband left her with no resources. Joseph who was working on his degree in Business Administration at San Diego State stepped in and took over that responsibility at the young age of 20 and has been responsible ever since.

In the beginning there were three owners and partners of Vineyard Hacienda, Most recently there was Gladys who's vision got us here today, her son Joseph Harmes who after loosing both his mother and business partners back in 2017 has made it a priority to keep his mothers vision alive while inviting in new vendors and focusing on Health & Wellness retreats. Joseph is the sole owner of Vineyard Hacienda today. Joseph offers a relaxing and tranquil retreat-like atmosphere while emphasizing eco-friendly and sustainable practices throughout: 100% solar power, healthy well water, and lush green pesticide/chemical-free grounds for our guests to enjoy. The hacienda has an old-world feel, but the guest rooms are well-appointed with modern amenities, including flat-screen cable TV in every room and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. We are located right on the edge of a natural animal preserve, and abundant and varied wildlife often visit the grounds.

There are several excellent eateries nearby with very friendly and accommodating staff, including a steak and seafood restaurant with full bar, an outstanding burger and local microbrew (31 flavors on tap) restaurant, and a delicious and fun Mexican restaurant. Also, an Irish pub, and Mediterranean, Japanese, and Italian cuisine, among others. Vineyard Hacienda is 6 minutes from Jamul Casino.
