AfriCamps at Karoo 1 is set in the enchanting Hex River Valley, the gateway between the Cape and the Great Karoo. Thirteen boutique glamping tents dot the farm, offering stunning views of rocky landscapes and a natural rock pool, a perfect oasis against the arid Karoo backdrop. Guests can relax and soak up the tranquility, while families, couples, and groups can enjoy the full range of activities on offer. Hiking and mountain biking trails wind through the property, rock climbing challenges await, and the communal rock pool invites a refreshing dip. A day safari at the nearby Aquila Big 5 Safari adds even more adventure to your stay. The property also features a restaurant, bar, boma, swimming pool, and a kids’ play area. AfriCamps at Karoo 1 is located just north of the Hex River Pass, between De Doorns and Touws River, on the Karoo 1 Farm Estate. The Hex River Valley is where mountains, rivers, and valleys meet the beginning of the Great Karoo. Surrounding mountain ranges, including the Matroosberg as the highest peak, create majestic views and rugged landscapes softened by the first stretches of Karoo shrublands. The narrow valley runs along the N1 from Worcester to Touws River, with De Doorns at the center, South Africa’s leading table grape-growing region. Over half of the country’s table grape exports come from the Hex River Valley. Visitors will enjoy the vibrant colors of the vineyards, especially in autumn, making the drive to AfriCamps at Karoo 1 a scenic experience in itself.
