It is a well situated family holiday destination. The buildings are in fact on the ridge of Southern Cross. It is approximately 500 m from the sea and close to the lagoon. There are many art galleries coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Botlierskop Game reserve is also close by for a wildlife experience. The George airport is 20 km away so it is ideal for a city-breakaway. Southern Cross as such is a pleasant suburb with its wooden and wood paneled houses.

Southern Cross Beach is a fantastic beach for the whole family to enjoy and is an ideal place to take your picnic basket for an afternoon of fun in the sun. Lifeguards patrol the shores here making sure the swimmers are kept out of harm’s way. The Great Brak River Village Walk is a circular trail that combines beach, estuary, river and village exploration. Starting and ending on Southern Cross Road, the easy route heads over the bridge in town and meanders back to cross another bridge downstream.
