We are Arnoud and Masjenka, a Dutch couple from Hoorn, a charming town near Amsterdam. Since 2013, we have passionately run our restaurant on the shores of the Markermeer – Oranje Buiten – a beloved spot where, on sunny days, hundreds of guests gather to enjoy good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and stunning water views. Our connection to “Orange” is no coincidence: in the early 2000s, Arnoud worked for the Dutch Royal Family. As a teenager, Arnoud spent a year as an exchange student in Kloof, South Africa. Since we met, we’ve been travelling to this beautiful country regularly for more than two decades. Each visit revived the same dream – to one day open our own guesthouse. In 2024, we decided to take the leap. Of all the places we visited, Graaff-Reinet captured our hearts. Its unique blend of history, natural beauty, and warm community made us feel instantly at home. Now, we invite you to experience this special place with us. Come and enjoy the peace, hospitality, and charm of Karoo life – we’ll make sure you feel welcome from the moment you have arrived.

Our proudly 4-star graded guesthouse was built in 1930. We recently renovated the rooms and the common areas. Our garden is full of cacti originated from the Karoo. All rooms are decorated with hand painted Pierneef-inspired murals. At your request we love to organise a nice braai or serve a lunch in our lovely garden.
