The Homestead is a place of comfort, where you can breathe easy, find joy, and forget the world outside. Visitors and family members are often in awe when they step into The Homestead, appreciating the spaciousness, stunning views, and the beautiful decor and design created by Trienke. The Homestead features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen with breathtaking sunrise views, a cozy lounge with a fireplace for chilly Hluhluwe nights, and a fantastic veranda with a braai area for warm summer evenings. In case you’re curious, The Homestead has welcomed many family members and close friends and was recently rented out to conservation specialists.
Hluhluwe Homestead is owned by Peter de Wit and Trienke Lodewijk, 2 “Dutchies” who moved to South Africa 25 years ago. After living in different places all around Africa, they decided to settle down in Hluhluwe. Peter and Trienke are the co-owners of Nuarro Lodge in the north of Mozambique. They started building this Eco-lodge in 2007 with local Mozambicans and officially opened up in 2009. They were the operational managers of the lodge until 2011. From a distance, they are both still very involved with the lodge. Of course, Trienke has a magical team gathered around her to run this beautiful place!
Hluhluwe Homestead is set in the heart of Zululand, famous for its wetlands, wildlife, pineapples and Zulu culture. The popular attractions in the area are the national game reserves False Bay in iSimangaliso Wetland Park – a World Heritage site, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Reserve and Mkuze Game Reserve. The stunning white beaches of Sodwana Bay and St Lucia offer world-class water-based attractions, ideal for a day trip. Just a 5-minute drive from the Homestead is the entrance to False Bay Park – one of the many entrances to iSimangaliso Wetland Park. With its beautiful lake, docile antelope and marked walking and mountain bike trails in one of the few sandy coastal forests left, False Bay Park is like a forgotten jewel. Pack a picnic and enjoy a lakeside sunset view after exploring the area. Just a 25-minute drive from the House, visitors will be spoiled with a true bush experience in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park – the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa and a Big 5 Park. A wild, hilly park, known for its rich wildlife and incredible rhino conservation efforts, one can easily spend a day driving through the park and still want to go back for more. Known for its well-protected white rhino population, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi offers visitors the chance to view these threatened residents in one of only 4 countries in which they reside; those being South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Black rhino are also under strong guard and these efforts make these the largest populations of white and black rhino in the world. Visitors can also be spoilt with sightings of jackals, hyenas and wild dogs. An hour away from Hluhluwe Homestad, one enters the famous Sodwana Bay in iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Celebrated for both its underwater diversity and beautiful forested coastal lands and lakes, Sodwana boasts 50km of growing coral reefs which thousands of divers from around the world visit annually. Also a very popular angling destination, deep-sea and shore fishing deal up treasu
