Don't let us tell, you - read the reviews about how unique and special our place is. Our lodge is nestled in a hidden valley, set within a 22ha estate and part of a private nature reserve that borders the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. We have an unrivalled view of the Cathkin Peak, uninterrupted by any other development between us and the Park. Warm yourself by a log fire in our cosy traditional Lodge hall during those frosty winter nights, or star gaze under the shadow of the mountain. Observe the eagles, hawks, otters, owls, various types of bok in our nature reserve; and enjoy private walks on our property into ancient forest, waterfalls, grass lands, and the escapments of the mountains. Do ask us about our plans for the estate: we are set within the Rood Farm Nature Reserve and have an exciting plan to rewild it nuturing the indigenous grass lands and the ancient forests replete with giant Yellowwoods, and enouraging more birds and animals to make their homes here. Please note: From the main highway we are 20 minutes / 3km down a dirt and concrete strip road which can flood and and get muddy during the summer raininy season. Therefore a vehicle with high clearance is strongly recommended. We can also arrange secure parking at the main highway and provide transfers for guests between the Lodge and the highway.
We are both well travelled and can't wait to welcome you to our home. We are always available for guests, and keen to chat with you, share our stories and hear about your travels and backgrounds. And we're always available to make up the numbers for a game of Catan or Ticket to Ride! With us, you should feel at home and relaxed.
Right here on the property, there are plenty of short hikes, and a lot to keep birdwatchers, star gazers, and nature lovers entertained. Our property is 3km from the main road, down a private graded road. From the main road, nearby we have bakeries, cafes, restaurants, quad bikes, horse riding, zip lining, white water rafting, a reptile farm, a falconry, a brewery, a vinyard with wine tasting, and a UNESCO World Heritage park.
