The Oude Waenhuis is a jewel in the Great Karoo landscape, located in a beautiful Victorian building originally built in 1847. "Waenhuis" means "Wagon House"; and the "Oude Waenhuis"; was originally built as the Wagon House for the Pastor on the village of Nieu Bethesda on the Church's ground for their Pastor called the "Pastorie". The Oude Waenhuis is ideally suited for a couple or a small family due to the shared spacious full bathroom in the building.
Nieu Bethesda is an oasis town in the Karoo with running water from the spring and the old “Leiwater” system still in use (running water in front of the older properties). Nieu Bethesda is located approximately 50km from Graaff Reinet. The world famous Owl House is within 100m of the "Oude Waenhuis". The village has two further centres of excellence namely the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre and The Bushman Heritage Museum.
