The atmosphere was sublime - an oasis in a desert environment.
The room had everything that one could think of and more. The pool was bliss and the trees made for welcome shade in the scorching Karoo sun.
The accommodation wa on a different level. Perfection personified. Thank you.

South AfricaWell...... this is a place well worth the detour. The Ibis, Stirling restaurant run by Barbara offers an authentic Karoo tasting menu which is well worth trying. Not only are you staying in the middle of the desert but now you can now taste it. And not at Cape Town fine dining prices either! The town is rather quiet and probably suites most visitors looking for serenity and peace! The rooms was comfortable with just the right amount of karma for a happy stay!

Comfortable bed, modern clean cottage, attractively furnished, kitchen stocked with all the necessary utensils including an air frier. Easy access to the Owl House and Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre. We appreciated the fireplace on the cold rainy evenings. Would stay again if we revisit the quaint, interesting town.

there are many things to experience to make the visit...
there are many things to experience to make the visit worthwhile, which we enjoyed - everything in walking distance - interesting place if you have never visited before.
nothing fancy, but anchoring oneself again in simplicity, which was great
nice restaurants to enjoy,
it is surely a bucket list visit done and thoroughly enjoyed

If you have not been to Nieu-Bethesda before, do yourself a...
If you have not been to Nieu-Bethesda before, do yourself a favour and go. If you have the time, stay a day or two and explore some of the hidden gems of the town like: Stirlings - The Karoo Food Experience; Waenhuis restaurant; Brewery; oom Boetie’s Pub; Stonefolk of Ongelukssloot; The Arty Way ~ galleries and studios; Dust Covers bookshop; Helen Martins museum and the Fossil museum.

An interesting town situated in a picturesque, seldom-travelled part of the country. Take a slow drive up spectacular Rubidge Ridge, then immerse yourself in the history and culture on offer. Highlights are Helen Martin's famous and quirky Owl House and the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre. Visit Infinity art gallery and you may be fortunate to enjoy a recital by a talented local pianist, and don't miss the well-stocked Dustcovers bookshop. Be sure to buy sourdough bread baked by a fairly new resident, whose popular tea-and-cake afternoons and sporadic dinners are evidence of his culinary skills. There are several good restaurants - we had delicious pizza and pasta at Zalig. Safe to walk around and explore the town. A community that deserves your support.

It was magical.
It was magical. The local community was very friendly and helpful. The general dealer had literally everything we needed. We could also get cash from him. The only thing I would like to see changed is a permanent structure for the craft vendors outside the Owl House. They make beautiful art pieces, but the area where they sell their crafts look shabby, unkept, poor and are not inviting. It does not create a good impression. They are part of the local community and should benefit from tourism. They had to face the wind and rain throughout the day as the homemade shelters are in tatters. The social aspect of these local crafters should be looked after. We did buy from them as most of their crafts are really skilfully made, but it does not look as if anyone really cares. That is something I would like to see change.

It is an amazing village.
It is an amazing village. One feels safe and the local people are very friendly and helpful. What really bothered me was that there are not proper facilities for the people who sell their crafts opposite the Owl House. Their crafts are beautiful, especially those of the descendants of Koos Malgas who worked with helen Martins. The sail shelters were in tatters blown by the wind. It rained three times on Sunday when we were there and these people had no shelter against the rain and the wind. Not only does it not create a poor image, but it creates an impression that there is absolutely no concern for the dignity and humanity of the crafts vendors. It would be wonderful if something can be done about that. The beautiful museum and artworks of the residents at the Tower accommodation is the complete opposite. Their works are exhibited and presented beautifully and their self-worth and dignity are restored.

The dusty quietness! Well worth the detour.
The dusty quietness! Well worth the detour. Joggers, bikers, nature lovers, go there. You will be spoilt for choice. They have a brewery that makes proper craft beer and even offers a custom take away quart! And the stars.......!
Need to go back there and bring my bike, running/hiking shoes for more to explore.
