The cottage is on the banks of the Kraai river which offers you a delightful farm experience in Lady Grey, surrounded by beautiful landscape and mountains. It is 3kms from the main farm house, which is a working farm with cattle, sheep and a few milk goats. Saffier is a homely mixed stone cottage which is fully furnished and consist of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, of which 1 is en-suite, lounge, dining area, stoep and kitchen. The kitchen is fitted with a gas stove/ gas oven unit and electrical fridge with a freezer compartment (160ltr) & smaller fridge. Cooking and eating utensils are provided. With nature on your door step and so many exciting things to do, we have not fitted the cottage with a television. Don’t miss out on stargazing at night – it truly is magnificent ( I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream…. Vincent van Gogh) River – The Kraai River is a beautiful mountain river with clean water and is lovely for swimming, and playing for smaller children too. It also has the feisty yellow fish for fishing. We are very proud of our diverse collection of birds and animals that we have on the farm. Next to the river we have frequent sightings of the Fish eagle, King Fisher (Giant Kingfisher and Malachite kingfisher) and European bee-eater. You are welcome to explore the veld and mountains surrounding the cottage on this side of the river .keep an eye out for Black Eagle, Cape vultures and Secretary Birds. Baboons like playing around in the cliffs, and the antelope you may see includes: Rhebok, Steenbok and Fallow deer. The mountain side is rich in fossils and is regularly visited by Wits University Palaeontologists - the natural flora is diverse. There are many gravel roads for mountain biking, and jogging. Weather: winters are very cold with frost in the mornings, but mostly lovely sunny days. Summer temperatures can range from mid-twenties to mid-thirties, with occasional cold South winds in the evenings.

SAFFIER river COTTAGE is situated between Lady Grey and Jamestown in the Eastern Cape and only 6km off the main gravel road R344. It is 30km from the N6, making it an ideal stop over towards the coast. From Aliwal it is a 45 minute drive and a 30 minute drive from the lovely town of Lady Grey. A high clearance vehicle or SUV is advised. You will find restaurants and grocery stores in Aliwal North. In Lady Grey you will come across delightful coffee shops and artist studios. There are many opportunities for trout fishing in the area and the 4x4 enthusiast have eight different passes to choose from. Lammergeier vulture sanctuary: you can visit them at R25pp which can be left at the main house
