Swallows Nest is a private and self-catering chalet that overlooks the Bell River valley. It is surrounded by the beautiful Southern Drakensburg Mountains where the alpine flowers grow in summer and are covered with snow in winter time. The chalet is on the property of Grace Hill farm which is situated 4km east of Rhodes Village. It is on the route to the scenic Naude’s Nek pass which is the highest navigable pass in South Africa contouring all along the Bell River, home to wild trout and yellow fish.
We are both outdoor and sports people and enjoy trail running, biking and hiking. We are blessed to have this facility and sharing it with people wanting to break away from city life.
One can truly relax here after a day filled with various activities. The area offers the following to choose from: Hiking, mountain biking (Rhodes Extreme route and others), 4x4 routes, rock art, birding (over 280 species identified), fly fishing, horse riding or a visit to the highest lodge in South Africa, Tenahead close to the origin of the Bell River. For the less adventurous guests: take a leisurely stroll along the 1.5km stretch of the Bell River on the farm or enjoy a quiet picnic under one of the big willow trees on the way.
