The Cottage offers charming, rustic self-catering accommodation in the quaint town of De Rust (Klein Karoo), 33km's outside of Oudsthoorn. Perfect for a romantic getaway or small families seeking a break from the busy hustle and bustle. The Cottage has 1 bedroom with a double bed and en-suite bathroom with a stunning Victorian bath (and shower). The lounge is furnished with a comfy sleeper couch (all linen provided). Amenities include a braai pit - perfect for making good memories, an undercover braai area as well, and a swimming pool to cool off on hot days! Unfortunately our quaint town is currently experiencing a severe drought. We urge all guests to please use water sparingly during this critical time. As hosts, we will supply guests with 5 litres of filtered water from our system for each night of your stay. Should guests require more they are most welcome to bring their own. We, at The Cottage, love to share what we have created with our guests. A lot of love and attention to detail has gone into renovating this old "waenhuis" into what it is today. We love the Klein Karoo, and it gives us great pleasure to offer guests accommodation which feels like home.

The Cottage is within walking distance to the village. De Rust is a small village at the gateway to the Klein Karoo, South Africa. The name is Dutch and literally translates to "The Rest", referring to the town's original purpose of being a resting place for settlers en route through the challenging terrain of a nearby Swartberg mountains. De Rust was established in 1900 on a portion of Meiring's Farm. Petrus Johannes Mering extensively explored the Karoo's Elephants River, and Swartberg Mountain range between Outdshoorn and Beaufort West. He discovered the route through the Swartberg Mountain Range, which in later years became the famous Meiringspoort. The quaint town of De Rust hosts a few coffee shops, a great Pub and a few restaurants, as well as a very popular antiques store. Please note operational hours of businesses here may vary from the cities.
