Lake Windermere

Stretching 11 miles, Windermere is the longest body of water in England. A variety of boats cruise around the area, constantly taking visitors from shore to shore. The water is loved by rowers, windsurfers, swimmers, and all kinds of water sports enthusiasts – but the lake’s surrounding trails are a paradise for both hikers and wanderers.

We stay in Windermere town quite a lot, mainly in the colder months. It's great for walks with dogs or as a couple/ party. Plenty of great eating places and bars, our favourite is brown sugar. Dogs are pretty much welcome everywhere too. There are plenty of hotels, BnB,s and studios to rent and they don't cost a fortune, in fact they are very reasonable priced. We travel by train as the station is a stones throw away from the town. Deffo worth a visit

Stunning.

Stunning. If you're in Bowness and look north towards the mountains north of Ambleside, it's one of the best views in the UK. There is also a viewpoint a little way north on the road from Bowness to Ambleside.

Lake Windermere is very popular and can be busy around the Jetty areas where people take a trip on the water. Just out of town the Lake Jetty Museum show some beautiful boats that have seen time on the water. There is also a trip you can purchase there. For motor fanatics, the motor museum just out of town shows a very extensive selection of cars bikes and motor vehicles of all areas. They also show the world land and water speed records made by the Campbells. Definitely worth a visit if you are Into that kind of thing. A cafe is available. Parking is a available at both places.

The location was excellent with a beautiful view over Lake Windermere. Close to shops/high street but far enough away to feel away from the hustle and bustle of a village. Easy to get to Ambleside and a good base to view other areas of Lake District like rowing at Bowness, Aira Force and Beatrix Potter's house. The breakfast was really good and the menu for dinner was varied and affordable prices.

For someone who does not have a vehicle, the location is ideal. It's just around the corner from a Sainsbury's Local, with a Greggs across the street, and other eateries further up the road. Given the location, the price is very nice. Being in the town center, the flat is equidistant for several paths to Lake Windermere, and a short walk to the trail head for Orest Head, as well as to the train/bus station.

What a beautiful property Windermere Park is. I adored my room. It was in the attic, and had great character to it. The breakfast was always very well done, and the staff were fantastic, especially the manager, Helena. The B&B is in a prime location, 8 minute walk from the train station, a few minutes walk into the village Centre, 15 minute walk to Lake Windermere, and a 20 minute down to the harbour, and where the boat/ferry rides are.

We stayed in the Miss Potter Suite at Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel and were truly impressed by its comfort and character. The suite boasts a spacious lounge area and offers stunning views over Lake Windermere, making it an ideal place to unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. Greg was exceptionally charming, and even though there was a shortage of service staff, he went out of his way to ensure our stay was comfortable.

The cottage was the perfect size for two couples - cozy living room, good sized dining room, and the hot tub had a nice view of Lake Windermere. The kitchen is missing a few key components, but had a range, oven, microwave, toaster and most importantly a cafetiere. The dogs loved having a gated yard to run around in as well!

Beautiful stunning decor overlooking Lake Windermere. Furnishings and rooms were top notch, lovely high quality bedding and amenities. Enjoyed the bespoke walking tour with Steve Watts. Everything is memorable including a lovely small pudding left in your room. Lovely grounds for a walk.

Very charming B&B with extremely nice owners in a location about midway between the train station & Lake Windermere, both about a 15 minute walk. When arriving by train it is downhill to the guesthouse. But if raining, one can take a taxi for about 5 pounds. The bed was very comfortable and the shower worked the best of all our stays in the last month.
