Basilica Cistern

This cavernous space is the largest remaining Byzantine reservoir in Istanbul. Constructed in the 6th century, it originally provided water filtration for the Great Palace of Constantinople, and continued to supply the Topkapi Palace from 1453 until the modern day. Opened to the public in 1987, you can now explore its lit walkways and be amazed by the decorative, water-worn columns.

As a traveler, I found this place very attractive and enjoyable to visit. The atmosphere is pleasant and well suited for people who like exploring city locations and popular spots. It is easy to access and fits well into a city sightseeing plan. The area feels lively, interesting, and well organized, making it a good stop while visiting the city. My name is NIMAX, and as a tourist from France and Iran who travels around the world, I appreciate places like this that offer a positive and smooth visiting experience. Overall, it is a good place to visit and worth recommending to other travelers.

The visit of the Bassilica Cisterne is a great experience!

The visit of the Bassilica Cisterne is a great experience! Τhe creators of that technical project, back in the byzantine period could never imagine how admirable this would be, as a monument, in the enternity. The sightseeing is also well managed by the authorities, at least on a tourist's point of view.

An expensive admission fee, but worth paying for fast-track entry. You'll still have to queue, but not as long. We visited in the afternoon, and next morning passed by there when the queue was very long, so perhaps afternoon is better. Fantastic sight, don't miss this.

Another interesting place that doesn't merit the long wait, the high ticket price. This is only an hour's visit at most. Walk around this glorious city instead and soak up the atmosphere. I love places like the Cistern but this price doesn't match the experience and I can't stand being packed into a place with huge crowds of tourists.

so glad I went here, you only need about 30 mins but its beautiful and worth a visit. Beautifully lit and apparently there are concerts there sometimes which would be amazing. 800 TL (July 2024) Please note, no toilets (well, I didn't see any).

Atmospheric.

Atmospheric. Not too busy when we visited, but you won't be alone. Admission fee but worth it. Exit is obvious, entrance around the corner. If there's a queue, say you want to pay with card and you might beat it, as we did.
