This was the best hospitality we received in Sri Lanka. It is a lovely family business, located in nature and very close to the famous Budurugawala rock carvings. Shalika and his family are perfect hosts. The cabin is great and the environment is very peaceful. The beds were really comfortable and super clean. The food they served is amazing and they the ingredients are harvested by the hosts. It was an amazing experience. They also provide transportation service. Highly recommended!

Wow! This was such a special place to have found. It really gets you into the mountains, with a beautiful 100m walk up into the summit of a gorgeous viewpoint. (Sunrise and Sunset). The privacy was unmatched and was perfect for a couple to enjoy the beauty. The cabin is very good quality and extremely cozy for those Ella nights. Lakshan, is one of the kindest hosts you could possibly ask for! He arranged a bike for us, amazing rain gear, and also offered tuktuk rides whenever we needed them. Breakfast was wonderful and delicious every morning (whatever time you request). We stayed for 4 days but wish it could have been longer. For sure coming back! With Love, Alba and Justin

Amazing room with a stunning view and lots of extra touches which made our stay memorable. We almost didn't want to go anywhere because it was so cosy and peaceful. Loved the window seat and the overhead projector which was great for a movie night and the bathroom was very special. Really enjoyed the breakfasts on the balcony with the amazing views. Chathura and the extended staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Fabulous walk from the cabins down the stairs to the railway line.

Nice location in the hills with lots of wildlife around. Helpful and friendly staff. Tasty breakfast. Big rooms and large balcony with a great view.

Amazing stay! Devaka was really welcoming and friendly - and even picked us up after our long day of hiking and dropped us back off the next day! Great stop off for anyone doing the Pekoe Trail - we finished the day in Makulella/at Allimale Junction and got picked up from here (only 5 min drive). Delicious food too!

Arawe retreat is an amazing place in Ella. It is surrounded by beautiful nature. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The food was very tasteful. We are really happy that we booked this place even though it was only for one night.

Everything was beautiful and well organized. I stayed for 4 days. I arrived at night, and even before I got there, the family stayed in touch with me during my trip to the hostel. After the long road, I was warmly welcomed. The room was clean, the water was hot, and they even prepared dinner for me at 10:30 PM. Everything about this place was special. From the moment I arrived until I left, the family surrounded me with love and care. The father, who owns the place, gave me a tour of the city, and he charged the local price, not the tourist price—no exploitation at all. You will truly feel safe. They also offer meals if you’d like to eat there, and the food was very delicious and clean. During my trips in the city, I felt safe and comfortable, because he always asked if everything was okay, explained about the places, and even stopped whenever I wanted to take photos or grab some food. The place was perfect for relaxation away from the city. Yes, the road was unpaved, but it wasn’t a problem at all because the owner has a tuk-tuk and can take you anywhere you need. Behind the house there are mountains and tea farms where you can walk and enjoy the views. Before I left, they booked my train ticket from Ella to Colombo, which was a huge help. Even though the owner wasn’t feeling well, he still accompanied me to the station to make sure I got on the right train. At that time, I didn’t have change to pay him back for the ticket, but he kindly said it was no problem at all 😭. They even prepared some fruit for me to take on my way. Everything about this place was wonderful—the family’s generosity and the way they cared for me. If I ever visit Ella again, the Saraniya family will be the reason.
