Being from WV of the USA and my first time in Trinadad, I was not sure what to expect at the Traum House. I was pleasantly surprised with an Island Paradise. The room was clean, I had a private bathroom, a fridge in my room, and Netflix. The common room was a shared kitchen with plenty of ice. Oh the room was as cold as you like it with a top notch wall a/c unit rated #1 on Amazon. The pool was so serene with so many beautiful orange flowers surrounding the crystal clean water, an outdoor shower and bathroom, and a gazebo area with hammock, barbeque grill, and plenty of chairs and tables. There was an interesting library of books and historic artifacts in the common area. I felt safe within the gated area and it was right in the heart of the real Trinadad. It was in walking distance to markets and pizza. I did decide to get a Papa John's pizza and Subway because I missed USA food and it tastes exactly the same. If you want to hop on a clean bus 3 blocks away and go anywhere, this is the ticket. Oh my girl Monisha and my Dr Ros the owner were on site and helped us out every day with travel plans and my requests were on point. He even put in handicap bar in shower the minute I mentioned it was a good idea for me. Blessed to have been at the Traum House. Thankful for the help and friendliness away from home. It was hot but not humid and the breeze was nice. It was bustling in and around town. This is the best pick for comfort and seeing the real Trinadad.

The place was clean and well laid out. Comfortable quiet surroundings. Host was friendly and reliable. Clean linens and adequate towels and toileteries. The welcome snacks were very much appreciated.⁸

Arlene, the owner, is a total gem—so kind, so welcoming, and absolutely determined to make sure you feel at home. Her family is equally as warm. Whether you’re a Carnival goer or just seeking a peaceful Trinidad escape, this place is perfect—especially with its own private pool. When I ran into costume mishaps or transportation hiccups, Arlene was right there helping me troubleshoot — even when it wasn’t her responsibility. Arlene also by created special breakfast options, tailored to my dietary preferences. If you want a blend of Carnival magic, serene vibes, and a family that feels like friends, book Maracas Gardens. We will always stay in touch with Arlene and her family—they have truly become like lifelong friends to us.

We could not be happier with our choice of accommodation, unfortunately only a short 1 night stay, but Haresh and Asha made it wonderful. EXCELLENT communication in advance, we booked their transfer and were warmly and efficiently greeted upon arrival. Glad we did as the home is in a gated community, and could have been harder for a random taxi to find. Obvious thought and care has been put into making their large family home into a comfortable retreat for visitors. Welcomed as a stranger and left as friends! Pictures are accurate descriptions of their home - we had no idea which room we would have (we chose the least expensive and were happy). However, there were much larger ones available. The bed was comfortable, we opted out of the A/C in favor of a fan and were very happy. (I run hot, so was surprised). Breakfast was excellent - we were asked what we wanted and requested an omlette - delicious and served on the terrace with beautiful views of the mountains and valleys - + lots of bird feeders and flowers! Would have been happy just relaxing on the terrace for more time than we had. Were fortunate their son was there and he took us to the boat yard where we met my brother setting off for a sail. Highly recommend if you want a personal connection in your booking along with insights of local life and island information. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
