Our favourite favourite place to stay on Gili Air! The breakfast (omg - waffles!!!) the location, the comfy beds, how quiet it is (especially considering it’s a hostel!! It’s still one of the quietest places I’ve stayed on the island.) Our favourite places to eat are right next door, the paddle boards to rent - just a fabulous time for the whole family!! Lexy and the staff take such good care of us and always make us feel like we’re returning to our home away from home.

A Truly Memorable Stay at Villa Kayu – Gili Air June 2025 What an incredible experience! We stayed at Villa Kayu on Gili Air for my wife’s 50th birthday celebrations, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness by Gary, the owner, and Dian, the general manager. Their hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable stay. The villa itself is beautifully maintained—spotlessly clean, well-appointed, and offering everything we could possibly need for a comfortable retreat. Dian went above and beyond to arrange a fantastic boat trip for my wife's birthday, allowing us to snorkel at several stunning spots where we encountered vibrant marine life, including plenty of fish and turtles. Upon returning to the villa, we were touched by the thoughtful gesture from the staff—a lovely handwritten note, delicious cookies, and a stunning birthday cake made entirely out of fresh fruit. It was the perfect way to end the day! While the villa is not beachfront, it remains an excellent value for money given its quality and the exceptional service provided. We would rate the villa a solid 9, with the staff deserving an unwavering 10 for their warmth, attentiveness, and generosity. The hospitality of the Indonesian people has truly left us in awe, making this trip an experience we will cherish forever. If you're looking for a stay in Gili Air that combines comfort, thoughtfulness, and wonderful service, Villa Kayu is the place to stay. Highly recommended. John & Traci

Staff was amazing and the place was good. Nice outdoor bathroom and bed was comfortable. Have a kettle with coffee and tea as well.

For the price, this place made for a lovely stay. Sweet, individual lodgings, a bit tired round the edges but functional and clean. Set in a beautiful rustic tropical garden. Lovely staff who looked after us, sorted out snorkeling and even made us ginger tea for when we were feeling unwell!

The house was spacious and cosy, and the host was very caring. The location was convenient and quiet, set off the main road to avoid street noise.

The retreat is located on the north side of the island, so be prepared for a decent walk from the boat harbor if you’re arriving on foot. That said, once you arrive, it feels like you’ve entered your own private oasis. The high walls and impressive entrance create a sense of privacy and security, although I felt completely safe on Gili Air at all hours of the day and night. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the beautiful pool in the center of the property creates a relaxing atmosphere. For me, the highlight was the yoga shala on the upper level. It is perfectly positioned to receive the gentle morning and evening sunlight while remaining protected from the intense midday heat. It became one of my favorite places to spend time during my stay. Another wonderful feature is the nearby Dream Makers Beach House, located right on the beach and perfectly positioned for sunset. The food and drinks there were excellent, and it was a fantastic place to relax and watch the day come to a close. A special mention goes to the owner, Ama, who is an absolute darling. She went above and beyond to make my stay memorable, even inviting me to spend time with her friends and join them for a fun night out at a nearby bar. That personal touch made my experience feel much more like staying with friends than simply checking into accommodation. Overall, Dream Makers Retreat combines great hospitality, comfortable accommodation, beautiful facilities, and a genuine sense of community. It made my short stay on Gili Air incredibly enjoyable, and I’ll definitely be back next time I visit. 5 stars.

The location is great because you are next to the best restaurant on the island. The breakfast was typical although you have to make your own coffee or tea from the premade packets. I would’ve liked a higher quality fresh coffee made for me. The stuff was nice.

The host family was probably the best part of it, also the breakfast wasn't so bad.

Slow Villas is absolutely incredible! I had such a wonderful stay here. The villa was beautiful, peaceful, and exactly what I needed for a relaxing few days in Gili Air. Everything was clean, comfortable, and the staff were so kind and welcoming throughout my stay. A special thank you to Iwan for truly going above and beyond to make my stay and my birthday so memorable. The surprise they arranged for me was incredibly thoughtful and honestly one of the sweetest moments of my trip. It made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and I’ll always remember it. He also arranged everything I needed to enjoy my time on the island and was so welcoming and kind every time I saw him. I will miss you Iwan!! Thank you again to the whole villa staff for such a special experience I would absolutely stay here again!

We loved our time in Gili Air and this wonderful new property is much of the reason why. We felt like we had our own piece of paradise. The room itself was comfortable (bed, bedding, nice big bathroom, hot shower, loved having a fridge) but the outside was the star of the show. Sitting on the front porch was so peaceful, the view spectacular. You have your own lounge chairs and umbrella on the beach in front, just a few feet from the water's edge. During high tide, you can walk right out to some great snorkeling. The restaurant next door will bring food and drinks to your beach chairs. You can rent snorkeling gear next door, and paddle board rentals are a short walk away. Of course the whole island is walk-able, but there are some really good restaurants nearby. A mini-mart isn't too far either. We appreciated this proximity without being too close to the busyness near the ferry terminal. The owner and staff were kind, responsive, and helpful. They left us a few treats throughout our stay.
