I stayed three nights with Buda Banai Hostel in a small town of Chishang which is famous for its scenic surrounding rice fields. The hostel is run by a young cheerful couple and it feels more like a homestay than formal accommodations. All in all: five star experience. Very spacious room, good shower, kitchen, excellent WiFi and very good location (about 5 min from the main street, but away from any noise). I am especially grateful to my hosts for their genuine hospitality: communication was easy, they allowed to chevk in earlier, met me in person and gave quite a few advices on “what explore and do” here. Big thanks!

Bugs! Lizards! Birds! Other wild animals of the rainforest! Situated on a hillside, this B&B is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for an escape from Taiwan's bustling cities. The main guest quarters featured a semi outdoor shared kitchen with a covered patio that includes ample sitting space, with a expansive lawn overlooking the serene farmland of Chishang and the dramatic Central Mountain Range beyond. The property also includes many short trails that lead to other scenic overlooks. Our hosts were easy to reach ahead of time, and were extremely accommodating for those with dietary restrictions. Breakfast was served family style, with many Taiwanese staples being served. The rooms were spacious, clean, and had newly renovated bathrooms. Bugs and flies are kept at bay with incense and a well fed army of house geckos that sing everyone to sleep at night with their chirps and barks. For dining options, the farmstay is a very short drive to Chishang village (about 5 minutes), and the hosts were extremely helpful with dining recommendations. A must stay if you are touring Taiwan's beautiful east coast.

The staff was so friendly and responsive, arranging pickup and dropoff from the train station and answering any questions immediately. The location is beautiful, right on the rice paddies, and the B&B has free bicycles for borrowing. The rooms are very tastefully and cozily decorated. And the patio for eating breakfast is absolutely idyllic.

It's run by a very friendly sweet old couple who speak zero English, but they communicate admirably nevertheless. Quick and easy to check in. The place is well maintained and well run. I had a single room, which is tiny, but it was enough for me. The room was made so cozy, practical and comfortable, with crisp quality linens. I loved the fluffy duvet. Everything was spotlessly clean. Drinking water, towel, soap, shampoo and toilet paper supplied. Spacious shared bathroom with excellent hot water. Downstairs it was a fridge and a water dispenser with hot and cold water. Some free tea and coffee as well. Superb WiFi, the best I've had in Taiwan so far. 30% discount if you rent a bicycle next door. They also had a really nice all weather patio smoking area. This little place really was my kind of place. I really liked it. It's very close to the train station.
