This was one of the best vacation experiences we've ever had. Modern hotel, very nice rooms, very delicious breakfast, nice beach view, directly at the beach and especially the persons who are taking care of your visit and work there. Bathing Beaches, Fishing Villages and University Towns

Stretching from Ahlbeck in the East to Flensburg in the West, the German Baltic Sea region is a popular destination renowned for its sandy beaches, fishing villages and seaports. From university towns through to seaside spas, it is rich in attractions and things to do.

To the east of the region, there is the Usedom Island, a popular spot with wide beaches and plenty of little spa towns, where the mighty of this world used to come in the old days. Germany’s largest island, Rügen, is just north-west from Usedom and features stunning chalk cliffs and varied natural life.

The German Baltic Sea region offers an abundance of bathing beaches and natural reserves, with Jasmund National Park and Western Pomerania Lagoon National Area, just off Zingst. For a taste of a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, try visiting the cities of Kiel, Lubeck and Rostock.

The hotel has extremely friendly and professional staff, from housekeeping to service they employ many people, all of them exceptionally friendly. The view onto the marina and the ocean bay beyond is spectacular, no road anywhere near. The structure seems to be solidly built - you do not hear your next door neighbour or their bathroom. The sauna is neat, looks out onto the same bay. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11 and caters to every need. The restaurant serves deliciously cooked food, including a vegan dish. Three days were expensive but singularly relaxing and refreshing.

The reception staff was very friendly and supportive! The kids club was amazing, and they took so good care of our daughter and all the other kids. Also the short notice “nanny” service was highly appreciated and our daughter had a lot of fun. Food in Brasserie was excellent and the pool/ spa is exceptionally!!! Kids club and spa is probably the best we have ever experienced in many countries! When we are in Rostock we always have a getaway to YHD!

The authenticity of the old town is remarkable and we liked it very much. There are parks nearby, the river and the channel present nice areas for walking and touring. If one is used to riding a bike, they will feel at home renting one, as most of the people there use bikes a lot. The infrastructure for bicycles is excellent.

We only had a brief glimpse of Rostock as it was an overnight stop on the way to a cruise but from what we saw, it is a very pleasant, clean and well cared for place. The local people were very friendly and helpful given our limited knowledge of the German language. We would love to return for a longer visit in the future . Tip - the Gyros stand outside the train station is excellent. Good food and lots of it.

Binz is a both, sleepy and very touristy place.

Binz is a both, sleepy and very touristy place. We were there pre-season, so during the main season, this gets even more crowded and touristy. However, there are normal supermarkets, grocery stores, and drugstores to get your everyday needs. Everything is basically in walking distance. Binz does not have a lot of sights, but there is a main one: the beach. The beach has wonderful, fine, white sand and extends over a large stretch of the coastline. It offers enough space for visitors, so the beach may be busy, but it is usually not crowded. If you're looking for a nice place for a beach trip within Germany - this certainly is a good place to visit. There are the usual tourist traps, and restaurants also may be a bit more on the pricy side due to tourism, but overall this simply follows the pattern in other popular tourist destinations and is nothing that special. Binz is a place to visit, whether you stay there at the beach for a few days, or use it as a starting point to explore other parts of Rügen, the Swedish island of Bornholm, or some neighbouring places on the coast. You can also make trips into the nice city of Stralsund, the next larger city off the island. Active travellers may find their exploratory routes on the island or into Rügen's neighbourhood, while lazy travellers can simply enjoy the beaches and the variety of local restaurants. A good destination for families.

The small city Warnemünde is part of the larger city Rostock and its amazing with old houses and a huge beach side. It's famous for the light house and the great beach promenade. During summer time many tourists love it to go to there and locals too. The access by a direct metro line is perfekt. Also they have a direct port for big cruise ships. Because of the good and perfect access and parking service, many people love to go to there. But also beside the regular season time you can visit this place for have good times at the spa facilities and great indoor swimming pool. Or just for have fun at several restaurants, but be aware, most of them close daily at 10 p.m.

I recently stayed at Bellevue in Timmendorfer Strand and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the hotel is very clean and well organized. The overall environment feels structured and efficiently run. Breakfast was genuinely good, with a solid variety and quality that met expectations. The staff are clearly well trained—professional, consistent, and precise in their service delivery. However, the service felt overly scripted and somewhat robotic, lacking warmth or flexibility. This seems to reflect a broader issue with management style, which comes across as quite rigid and inflexible. There were also a few details that detracted from the overall experience. The absence of a water boiler in the room is inconvenient, especially for a hotel in this category. The 11:00 check-out feels unnecessarily early and adds pressure to the departure experience. Additionally, charging €2 for basic, single-use plastic slippers feels unnecessarily petty and gives off a cost-cutting impression that undermines the hotel’s positioning. By the way I booked the best room, suite, paid 1000 euro for 3 nights and they charged me 2 euro for slippers. Looks cheap on the hotel side. Overall, the hotel may appeal more to an older clientele who value structure and predictability. For families or guests looking for a warmer, more flexible atmosphere, it may not be the best fit.

The island of Rügen is easily accessible by car and can easily be explored for two days with e-bike and steam locomotive. Peenemünde is also a good option. Around Stralsund, you can easily take several e-bike tours, for example, to Aussichtsturm Barhöft.

We didn't know much about the East/West German divide so we were nervous about visiting Rostock. However, it was a pleasant, clean, safe town. We walked everywhere. There were nice parks, a wonderful museum and the St Mary's cathedral (first mentioned in 1232) had an astronomical clock that was a feat of engineering and upon striking 12 noon a procession of small wooden figures rotated around the top. We were impressed with the history of the place. The museum had a display about WWII and it was only in German, however we were able to scan large paragraphs of the display to the phone and download a German translation pack to be able to read it. We ate in several little establishments. We always got correct change back from our bills, unlike other places in Europe where you have to be really cautious with your money. I even tried the local Rostock beer!
